Appleby’s Arts & Media Program offers an opportunity for campers to explore and develop their artistic talents through three different streams: performance, creative and media arts. Taught by experienced Instructors, these dynamic camp options are designed to provide a “sampler” of great activities in three distinct art streams. Campers will create individual art projects with a wide variety of media and techniques, building confidence and encouraging expression of their creative imaginations! Hosted in Appleby’s music, dance, drama and art studios, these state-of-the-art facilities provide a stimulating environment for large artistic expression in small, physically distant groups.

Our 60-acre campus also allows ample space to host activities outside, without cohorts coming into contact with one another. Wherever possible, activities will take place in outdoor spaces, even those that traditionally would be inside, and campers can expect to be outside each day, whenever programming and weather allows. The landscapes and nature around campus are ideal for artistic inspiration and perfect spaces for painting, sketching and tie dye! It also provides the perfect backdrop for drama and dance performances! Media arts campers will figure out how to capture natural light for backstage magic and it’s importance in photography!

Our scheduled programming each camp day will run from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. with a drop off window between 8:15 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.; and a pick up window between 3:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Exact time slots for both drop off and pick up will be determined for your camper's program and communicated closer to camp.

Each camp listed below will be offered for all 11 weeks this summer, in both the Jr. (7-10 yrs) and Sr. (10-14 yrs) age groups. All programs include a hot lunch served in individual environmentally friendly packaging, as well as recreational swimming time in the Appleby pool.

Appleby Camps prides itself on low camper to staff ratios, and we continue to stay up to date on all Covid-19 related protocols to keep our camp families safe and healthy.

Let your creative juices flow through painting, drawing, writing, and fashion design!  Learn about Van Gogh while creating your own post-impressionist painting; or delve into the world of sculpture using different tools and techniques to mold your masterpiece. Doodling on the corners of pages? Turn those scribbles into runway worthy couture by trying your hand at Fashion Design. Campers will have the opportunity to create art in various physical forms, from canvas to comic strips, or write the next short story on the best seller list!

MEDIA ARTS (JR. 7-10 YRS) (SR. 10-14 YRS)
1, 2, 3…cheese! Embrace the technical and digital side of the arts world through photography, editing, film and backstage tech! Learn the rule of thirds, aperture, shutter speed, to capture movement, light and expression to help you take amazing photos. How about editing your photos? Work with our digital editing software to tweak and enhance as needed. Ever wondered what it would be like to learn how a green screen works? How to place lights on a stage to capture the moments perfectly? Campers will have the opportunity to explore the elements of backstage technical production. Did you know it takes 16 pictures to make 1 second of an animated TV cartoon? The basics of digital cartooning will also be covered throughout the week, allowing for campers to let their artistic side shine.

Jr. Campers (7-10 years) will need to bring a camera that can take pictures and a USB key.

Sr. Campers (10-14 years) will need to bring a camera that can take video and pictures along with a USB key.

Join us as we celebrate the performers in our camp community! We will explore different skills in each of the performing arts disciplines, including dance, acro, theatre and magic! Learn the power of a soliloquy, how to mentally and physically prepare for live theatre performances, and how to "shake" those nerves out! Our highly-qualified Instructors will breakdown the sweet moves in your favourite performances to help you get stage ready! Where did those flowers go? Learn the "tricks" of the trade and become a Camp renowned Magician! Prepare to dazzle your family bubble with tableaus, walkovers and card tricks!
