For over 55 summers, teens have been having the time of their lives at Solelim through exceptional programming and sports, arts, waterfront and outdoor adventure activities. Our dedicated staff provide campers with opportunities to celebrate what makes everyone unique and to discover what it means to be a part of a community. At Solelim, our campers learn to be themselves, try new things, increase their independence and grow as leaders. They develop meaningful connections with Israel, Jewish values, the great outdoors and, of course, each other. Nestled in the forests and lakes of Ontario's beautiful north, Solelim is a place where lifelong friendships are formed and where teens become the best versions of themselves.
The 2020/21 Experience at Camp Solelim
At Solelim, we work hard to ensure that every detail is in place so that each camper has the time of their life... every single summer.
This summer, in the midst of a global pandemic, there are more details than ever! Right now, we’re learning from camps that successfully opened this past summer. We’re thinking through important issues such as medical protocol, facilities, staffing, cohorting, cleaning procedures, PPE, testing, outdoor programming spaces, improving ventilation in buildings and supply chain management to plan for the many ways we may need to adapt running camp next summer. We're meeting regularly with our colleagues in camping to share news, wisdom and resources so we can ensure we are prepared as possible.
We’re deeply committed to living by our values – and transparency is at the top of that list. We want to be as upfront as possible: we expect things to change between now and the summer. We know that session length, dates, and tuition may all have to change and we’re already planning for potential alternative scenarios. Please know that we will also adjust our fees and issue pro-rated refunds should significant adjustments be made to our schedule. If camp is cancelled this summer, we will honour our commitment to refund any payments made to date or to roll over fees for next summer.
We’re excited to welcome you home to Camp Solelim. We promise to keep our families (and website) updated and to work together to make summer 2021 unforgettable.

Solelim is a place where we are trusted and treated like young adults. The trust and responsibility given to us at camp to build our community is what causes us to grow.
At Solelim, being unique is a welcome trait, and everybody is valued. I’ll take that lesson with me for the rest of my life, in everything I do.
Being at camp has taught me Jewish values that I will carry with me.... The overall value and lessons that are taught end up teaching us how to strive to be a mensch and why it is important to aim to be the best version of... Read More
Shauna Waltman, Camp Director
Shauna’s camp journey began at Camp Shalom at eleven years old. Having been both a camper and staff member, Shauna understands the value of the summer camp experience: the spirit, growth, community and connection with nature, lifelong friends and meaningful Jewish life. For 14 years, Shauna trained leaders and designed programming for transformative Jewish experiences such as Birthright Israel and March of the Living, engaging thousands of young adults across Canada.
Shauna brought her experiences running “camp on a bus” to Solelim when she became Director in 2015. She is passionate about bringing out the best in each camper through empowering them to create an inclusive, supportive community where everyone has a chance to shine. An expert in leadership development and experiential education, Shauna loves helping staff and campers discover their own leadership potential and build authentic relationships with Israel and Judaism.
Shauna has an HBA degree from the Ivey Business School at Western University and a Masters in Jewish Professional Studies from Spertus College. She was a member of the inaugural class of iCenter Israel Fellows and completed the Senior Educators Cohort through the Institute for Experiential Jewish Education.
Shauna is married to fellow Judaean and Camp Solelim alumnus, Jeremy Bornstein, and has three adorable children who cannot wait to be Solelimniks.

More details about accommodations: Tent living is a defining feature of the Solelim experience. Our sturdy tents sit on concrete platforms and have a wood walls and rafters. Tents are made of waterproof canvas and topped with a tarp so that everyone stays dry. There also is a mosquito net to keep the bugs out. All tents are equipped with beds, lights, electrical outlets, windows and smoke detectors making them a cozy summer home. Each tent can accommodate up to six campers and most tents will have a mix of both camper age groups. Every tent is assigned one or two staff as “tent parents;” and while they do not live in the tent with the campers, tent parents are responsible for checking in with their campers daily and for organizing special tent time activities each week.
Are meals provided? Yes
Is Camp Solelim technology free? Yes
We believe in unplugging from technology so that we can plug into the environment, activities, and relationships that make Camp Solelim the special place that it is. That is why we insist that our campers leave most of their devices at home. Parents understanding and support of this policy helps us ensure that our campers get the most out of their Solelim experience.
