INDIGENOUS CULTURE CAMP

The 5-day Indigenous Culture Camp is a rich authentic blend of traditional dance, drumming and song, crafts and storytelling taught by program facilitators and educators that share the same identity and lived experience as the children the program was developed for.

PROGRAM CURRICULUM

Monday:  Drumming & Song (children will learn a song to the heartbeat of the drum)                                                         Tuesday:  Dance (discussion and practice dancing of traditional dances)                                                                   Wednesday:  Art Activity (Inuit Crafts (5-8’s) and Wood Carving (9-12’s)                                                                           Thursday:  Myths & Legends (Storytelling/Sharing Circle (parables and stories aligning history and present day)  Friday:  Poetry Slam (land, culture and environmental sustainability)

*Each day of the 5-day virtual camp program will start with a welcome and end in a sharing circle.



Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Interpersonal skills: Campers in the Indigenous Culture camp are from various cultural backgrounds and will have the opportunity at the end of each session to voice their thoughts, opinions, and ask questions in the sharing circle
  • Responsibility: Campers will develop an acute awareness and understanding of Indigenous culture and the value and need to preserve the land on which we play, work and live.
