Private instrumental lessons at CBY Music and Performing Arts are tailored to meet the needs of the individual and help them to achieve their specific goals.
We offer one on one instruction in the following instruments:
Instrumental lessons are delivered using the following 3 pathways:
Repertoire Path:
The repertoire pathway puts a greater emphasis on learning and playing songs. Repertoire can extend across a variety of genres, from classical to musical theatre to contemporary pop, and focuses on the joy of playing and confidence building. General musicianship and instrumental rudiments are taught experientially through the act of playing repertoire.
Exam Path:
Students wishing to earn their music qualifications can do so with CBY. We are an accredited Royal Conservatory of Music academy and our RCM certified teachers will lead the student through all the requirements to prepare and succeed in their exams. Students interested in more traditional styles (classical) earn their qualifications with the RCM and students interested in contemporary styles (pop, jazz etc) earn their qualifications with Conservatory Canada. Drums, percussion, bass guitar and ukulele ears are delivered using the world-renowned Rockschool® curriculum.
These music qualifications can also earn students a high school credit for Grade 11 and Grade 12 and are widely recognized and respected.
Foundation Path:
This pathway is for students who wish to develop a strong foundation on their instrument. Students are supported as they study a variety of method book series, combining theory, repertoire, etudes and technical instruction. Students who complete their method book series can go on to the exam path or repertoire path, depending on their goals.
Students can choose to mix all three pathways, just focus on one or switch pathways as their objectives change. We have found that this bespoke method of training accommodates the evolving goals of the young singer and keeps them working towards a multitude of music based milestones.
All singing students, regardless of path, are given the chance to perform in our biannual student concert series, as well as community-based performance opportunities (Waterdown Santa Claus Parade, for example), providing them with valuable performance and growth experiences.
Private lessons are 30 minutes per week, after school and at weekends, and occur on a monthly rolling basis. Monthly tuition fees vary depending on the lesson day. Please contact us to find out about availability.
