Who are you as an organization?

"Wildheart Girls" - Be Inspired by Horses in Alberta! We are horse immersion! Experience the Western Way and stay the week in glamping cabins in our Fort that has 8 foot high walls. We have provided 25 years of Expert, Safe, Fun, & lots of practical horse riding. Girls gain resiliency and confidence with the consistent horse activities - their self esteem rockets upward! We coach, encourage, and empower life skills through horsemanship. Horses make our program! There are 50 personable, well trained horses & 480 acres of magical fields and forests to ride on. Our campers come from Canada & around the world. Enjoy campfires, songs and more! Eat fresh food and fruit from our gardens and enjoy the taste of "fresh picked". Ages 12 -16.

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

"Wildhorse Ranch is one of the best horse camps in Canada. Our secluded camp attracts girls who have a passion for horses, who want to spend all day with horses! Savor everything about horses and engage in exceptional experiential, full day, horse programs. Small groups, excellent instruction, and we love being outside all day. Horses can help decrease stress levels and anxiety and increase emotional wellness. Girls practice superpowers and the 3 C’s – communication, cooperation and compromise. Plus they learn to set boundaries! Our Techno free policy allows room for lots of creativity, conversations and new friendships. Parents are amazed at the personal growth that occurs during the week. No pressure here. Horses are our Lifelong Passion! "

Who are your staff and counsellors?

"Summer camp staff are passionate about connecting to horses and teaching practical horsemanship skills. The staff girls come from different parts of the world and bring a unique international flair to our camp. These girls are usually in a gap year at university and bring diverse skills and knowledge that adds to camp Fun! We believe Practice makes Progress and its time spent with the horses: on the ground and in the saddle that make a successful, connected rider. We have an all girls staff and ratio is 4:1. We are a small camp so the campers get to know each other and the staff on a "personal level". There are great conversations around the campfire and during mealtimes. "

What do families need to know about registration?

"Registrations are now open for 2024. Spots are limited this year. We are only offering Two week long camps in July and One in August. Plus we have Two spring break camps.
Call or email for a registration pkg.
We have a no refund policy. We do offer a payment plan
We like to do a phone interview before you sign your child up to make sure she is a good fit for our camp
Please make sure that your child has stayed away successfully at a previous camp or with friends ( relatives do not count) that will ensure that she has a great time at our "horse immersion camp"!

The Our Kids review of Wildhorse Ranch

    our take

Wildhorse Ranch isn’t just a camp, it’s a retreat. Parents call it magical. Programs are only for girls and women. It starts with girls developing a connection with their horse, which is very important in any equestrian program. Once they are comfortable, they begin riding and are given on-the-spot feedback so they can improve their horsemanship skills as they go. Horseback riding isn’t just about the physicality, it is also about how it helps riders mentally. It can be very healing and somewhat meditative and Wildhorse Ranch encourages this aspect of it by doing energy and groundwork with their students. Owner and Director Diane Baker and her partner Bear are well-respected in the riding community and riders come here just to learn from her. She is passionate about horses and how they can lead you to the path of ultimate fulfillment. There are over 50 horses at Wildhorse Ranch and many have been rescued and rehabilitated.

    Stories

    • Whisper and Mackie and their Life Long Friendship!

      Stories of the Wildhorse Herd:

These two lovely geldings have been part of our herd for 3 years now, they are in their 20's and have been together for most of their lives so they are "attached to each other". Let me set the stage for today's story, they are always together, where one goes so goes the other. We have never had two horses share a food bowl but these two willingly share with each other all the time! I have been giving extra feed every day to 9 horses in the "pampered pony pen" - for a variety of reasons ( stories for another day), however we had our waterer freeze up so I had to turn most of them out back into the big herd... Mackie and Whisper were part of the extra feed group and I hated to put them back out but no water is not a good thing. However, today Mackie (who always whickers at me whenever I am out in the field or anywhere in the yard) left his friend Whisper and came up to the main gate and called me. I realized he really needed extra feed to I brought him up to the barn and gave him a bowl of his favorite foods and then I brought him a big pile of hay (plus a bucket of water). I thought Whisper would be OK out in the front field with the rest of the herd....
At feeding time we could not see Whisper so we went on a search and we found him standing in the forest, head down, all sad and despondent... he was standing where he last was with Mackie...
I caught him and brought him up to the barn, Mackie saw him coming and his head came up out of the hay and he gave his friend a big whinny of welcome! Whisper on the other hand gave a half grunt/whinny that was more like "where have you been, I've been worried sick because I could not find you! You could have let me know you were leaving..
Needless to say when I left them they were standing shoulder to shoulder, heads down enjoying the hay pile! Lesson learned: Next time I will take both of them!💖💖💖
