Minecraft and UNESCO are calling on students to join the Peace with Nature challenge! Students will participate in small teams according to age group (8-10, 11-13, 14-18) to design and build a sustainable solution that will let humans live in harmony with nature in the custom-built “Peace with Nature” world.

About this course

Students will learn about sustainable development through class discussion and planning, and by meeting and talking to characters in Minecraft. Students will submit a video tour of their final entries by the end of the last class, and have a chance to win awesome prizes like Minecraft swag, plus the grand prize of a video chat with the creators of Minecraft!

Each 2-hour class will be broken down into 2 main sections:

1. 30 Minute mini-lesson

  • Climate Change
  • Sustainable solutions to living with nature
  • UNESCO Sustainable development goals

2. World Builds

  • Planning
  • Sustainable solution build
  • Peer review
  • Video recording

What you'll learn

Areas of Focus:

By the end of this course, students will...

  • Have knowledge, understanding and be able to describe what improves and harms environments and about some of the ways people look after them.
  • Know and understand that there are different kinds of responsibilities and duties at home, at school, in the community and towards the environment.
  • Learn that resources are limited and how they can be allocated in different ways, and that these choices affect individuals, communities and the sustainability of the environment.

In addition, learners should use the competition to develop skills in:

  • Citizenship
  • Environment
  • Climate Change
  • Sustainability
  • Lifestyle and Diversity

Minecraft Education Edition Beta (version 1.17.30)

Join the Peace with Nature Challenge, hosted by Minecraft: Education Edition and UNESCO. K-12 students around the world are invited to design sustainable ways of living in harmony with nature. Build in a custom Minecraft world as an individual or team of up to four students, then create a video of your solution.  Educator resources are available in 29 languages, including a lesson plan to integrate the challenge program into the curriculum. Submissions are due by 19 November 2021. - Minecraft Education Edition
