The Our Kids review of Lakefield Camp International

our take

Lakefield is one of the foremost boarding schools in Canada, with a reputation for delivering a quality academic program that is based in the values of cooperation, creativity, leadership and resiliency. The campus, even during the academic year, has the feel of a camp, given that its 315 acres includes lake access and extensive outdoor education facilities, including a world-class ropes course, a multi-purpose waterfront, and a wealth of green space. To say that the school is well situated to offer a strong summer program is an understatement. The camp, as the name implies, draws campers from around the world, as it has done since it was begun in 1985. ESL courses are available, and they are both strong and intensive, though the immersion experience is important too. That said, there are other programs as well that are equally strong, including leadership. The school is host to other summer programs in addition to the international camp, including the Leahy Music Camp and the Lakefield Literary Festival, which afford an interaction with others and an authentic engagement with the school’s local culture. The campus is a hive of interesting activity throughout the summer season, something which adds a nice sense of community to all of the programs hosted here, the international camp prime among them.

Director's Message

principal

Tim French, Director, Lakefield Camp International

What is camp to you? For me it is a place in the sun, a place to have fun, to meet new people, to challenge yourself with new situations and to get outside. Lakefield is all those things and much much more. We are excited about the coming Summer, it will be filled with fun, talent shows, activities to keep you busy and the opportunity to challenge yourself personally and amaze yourself at what you can do. I have been going to camp for many years, too many to tell and each summer is different. There are new campers, new staff and new kinds of fun. Lakefield is a special place, a wonderful mix of traditional Canadian camping with the comforts of home. Come and hang out with us, spend sometime around the campfire, meet me on the basketball court and beat me at archery, I challenge you. We will see you all soon.

I have been to Lakefield twice!

I have been to Lakefield twice. In summer 2012, I went as a camper, where I felt in love with the beautiful environment and met wonderful people. This past summer, I had the opportunity to go again, but now in the Leader-In-Training Programme which is an extraordinary experience to acquire and develop skills not only for the camp but for your whole life. I invite you to become part of the family of Lakefield Camp!

Try Something New!

I like Lakefield because you get to do lots of activities. My favourite one was windsurfing and Julian taught me how. He was very good teacher and before I left I was able to stand and sail for 10 minutes without falling!

Best Summer Ever!

Lakefield Camp was the best! I am sad to leave all my friends. It was the best summer I have ever had and I can’t wait to come back next summer. See you at Lakefield!
