Laurus Summer Camp | Montreal | Counsellor In Training (CIT)

LAURUS CIT PROGRAM (ages 15+)  takes place on a 3-week rotation.

Our Counsellor in Training (C.I.T.) program was designed to teach 15 year old counsellors-to-be on how to work at Laurus Summer Camp. Our program includes theoretical and practical lessons that are divided into 3 Modules : Camp roles, Childcare and Safety and Activity Planning. Together, these three modules will teach CIT’s about the basics of childcare and prepare them for applying to work with us the following summer!

The CIT will be assigned to a supervisor (a section head) that they will be reporting to. Throughout the first week they will work with kids of all ages, then during week two and three they can specialize with the age group that they prefer to work with most. 

CITs will be responsible for creating and leading activities. Although they are never alone, they are required to run activities on their own throughout the 3 modules with guidance from their supervisor.  

At the end of each module, the assigned supervisor will give feedback, including their strongest and weakest points and what to work on for the following week. This is also a moment to follow up with the CIT to see how they are adjusting, what their experience has been like so far and how they feel about moving forward.  CITs will also be completing weekly group projects and quizzes, as well as their First Aid and CPR Training. The weekly project is to be decided within your group of CIT’s according to the module. Once the project is completed, each CIT will obtain a certificate of the module completed. 

At the end of the three-week period, the CIT will be given a full evaluation that includes, how they did, how they responded to feedback, things to work on, their strongest points, etc. They will receive an official Laurus Summer Camp CIT Program Diploma. 

This program will also be able to give the CIT community service hours and to engage them in the workforce to prepare them accordingly. There is also chance of future employment if a candidate has gone through the CIT program.
