KARDIA is the Medics Camp program theme being offered in our return to live online STEM/STEAM programs. This program theme was very popular in 2020 and 2021. KARDIA will take kids on a journey into the cardiovascular system where they will discover how an organ slightly larger than their fist keeps them alive. What is blood and what does it do? What are blood types? How do we keep our hearts healthy? What are some common heart related conditions? What's the difference between, a heart attack, cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest? What are the signs and symptoms? What is CPR and how is it performed? How do we breathe and what does that have to do with the heart, blood, and every cell in your body? What is asthma and how can you help a friend who may be experiencing an asthma attack? What's the difference between mild choking and severe choking? How to help someone with a complete airway obstruction. What to do if you're choking and alone.
Kids get to be doctors each week as they explore the world of medical science, health and the human body with like minded peers who are also intellectually curious and love to learn. All Medics Camp STEM certified programs are designed to be engaging, enriching, educational, interactive and of course-FUN!
Participants will receive a printable file and a list of materials needed for their weekly club meeting at least 3 weeks in advance so that they have time to collect the items. While our updated hands-on experiments and activities are designed to use common school and craft supplies, kitchen pantry items and upcycled materials, we recognize that depending on your location there may be times when you unable to find an item on the list so we have suggested substitutions as well. Each one hour session will cover a different medical related topic and includes associated hands-on activities that bring learning to life.
