Chess is known as the Game of Kings. It has been played for over 1500 years! On a basic level, Chess looks fairly simple. However, the level of strategy and tactics that players can employ is endlessly complex. The game continues to be a world-wide phenomenon to this day.
Lifetime Skills Academy, through our partner TAC Sports, is proud to introduce Chess to our exciting Summer Camps. The half-day option is perfect for beginners and more advanced players alike. Campers will learn the basics of gameplay and how the pieces move. As the program progresses, campers will learn tactics, strategy and game scenarios.

Problem solving skills are transferable to virtually every aspect of life. In Chess, you learn to be able to use your pieces and your intellect to overcome a constantly evolving challenge. This teaches children to be able to think quickly on their feet and adapt to a changing environment, two critical skills in our modern world.
Spatial awareness is something lacking from much of our modern curriculum. Chess offers a fantastic opportunity to develop this critical skill whilst still in a classroom environment. In Chess, players have to be aware of the entire board at all times. This means keeping track of up to 32 pieces all at once. This awareness forces players to have a broader appreciation for their environment which directly carries over into sports and, in the future, even driving a car.
Concentration is sometimes a very difficult skill to master. Far too often, children, and even adults, get frustrated with a problem quickly and give up. The ability to concentrate allows us to come up with remarkable solutions in the face of tremendous adversity. Chess shines in this respect. The game forces players to think methodically through each step and maneuver in order to find a winning move. This same high degree of concentration will easily transfer into academics and allow your children to develop into sharper students.
