VRKidz Day Camp at VRPlayin

As a parent in 2018, it can be harder than ever to find activities for your children that include a good mix of fun, education and innovation. We all know Virtual Reality is the future and it’s only a matter of time before it enters the mainstream. But because we believe our next generation should be ready for their future, VRPlayin is proud to introduce our VRKidz Day Camp program. Suitable for children ages 10-12, our Intro to VR day camps provide high tech, hands-on experiences for children to explore the world of virtual reality!

As we’ve touched upon in some of our previous blog posts, it’s undeniable that content available in VR today is an engaging way to promote teamwork, communication and creativity. Over the past month we’ve run a pilot program of the day camp for grade 5 students at Bolton C Falby Public School and the response we’ve received from students and teachers are extremely positive. Engagement and communication levels far exceeded expectation and most importantly, we discovered that problem solving in a 3D environment helps kids visualize many real world physics and engineering issues while providing kids the freedom of solving problems with their imagination and creativity.

At VRKidz, we start by teaching children all about VR and how it works before guiding them through some of our unique group activities by knowledgeable instructors. With a low student to instructor ratio, kids can learn the basics of physics in Fantastic Contraptions and hone their artistic skills in Masterpiece VR, or discover the importance of working together to achieve goals in Rec Room, where team members who communicate with each other have the most likelihood of success.

Here’s how it works: Each camper is placed in a team with two other children with whom they will be sharing a VR station with for the day. The three take turns in and out of the headset, with one person playing as the other two are able to watch and learn from the outside. Campers not in the headset can engage with the activities in VR through active communication with their teammates, watching the action on the TV screens and engaging with our instructors. We here at VRPlayin have found this method to not only be the most effective for problem solving but learning teamwork skills as well.

With two different options of day-long sessions available, kids can choose between a focus on creativity and problem solving, or high-energy teamwork and communication skills. Or, choose to do both days and take full advantage of what virtual reality can offer. Either way we guarantee your child will be going home with substantial knowledge of the new and exciting medium of virtual reality. As we are continually seeing a growth in technology in general and VR specifically, they will be able to get a jump start on the personal and technical skills that will be beneficial in the years to come.

VRKidz will have Intro to VR sessions available all of March break. Register now to guarantee yourself a spot, and see why everyone is talking about virtual reality.
