If you’re looking for a course that really allows your leadership potential to shine, this course will have you return home ready to take an up-front role in your school, amongst your peers or within your neighbourhood and surrounding community.

More than any other course, Outward Bound Canada’s Leadership courses offer intensive leadership training for 16- to 18-year-olds. This course teaches advanced leadership practices, giving you a new perspective on your ability to take on a global mission and leave your mark on the world at large.

Leadership courses offer greater physical challenges so you can reap the ultimate rewards. Your mental and physical endurance will be tested, helping you accept your limits and recognize how your attitude affects your performance.  Furthermore, you will be expected to share leadership of the group, taking ownership of your group’s consequences and outcomes and learning how to appropriately delegate roles and accept support so that, as you grow and excel, so does your team, ensuring the entire group achieves outstanding success.

Your journey begins when you meet your group in Mattice, Ontario.  From there, you will make your way to the Missinaibi River, one of the longest free-flowing, undeveloped rivers in Ontario.  Your goal is to paddle down the river, from Mattice to Moosonee on James Bay.  There you will be rewarded with a beautiful train ride back through the northern Ontario wilderness.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Resilience: Participants will step out of the comfort of daily routines and into an adventurous and exciting, yet foreign and uncertain environment. Using the challenges of the course, instructors will teach participants how to transfer the skills they learned to their everyday lives.
  • Interpersonal skills: Participants will share the leadership of the group, taking ownership of consequences and outcomes, and learning how to appropriately delegate roles and accept support. As they grow and excel individually so will the team, ensuring the entire group achieves outstanding success.
