Push deep into the Northern Ontario wilderness on this epic 3-week adventure. The Temagami area offers a stunning backdrop for your group to learn vital teamwork and leadership skills. By refining your paddling skills, you will also build on your problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Course work for your high school credit will be done through activities, group discussions and analysis, and daily journal reflections.
AREA & ACTIVITIES
The course explores the jaw-dropping scenery of the Temagami region, an area that has been home to the Anishinabek Peoples for time immemorial. Your group will canoe through Temagami's deep waters and rolling rapids. The region’s highlights include pictographs on Lake Obabika, Bear Island, one of Ontario’s highest points, Maple Mountain and more.
During the course, you will navigate flatwater in a canoe, learning the strokes and rescue techniques along the way. Everything you need for the expedition will be brought with you. The skills developed on the journey include paddling strokes, map reading and navigation, camp skills, Leave No Trace, and teamwork and leadership. This route may include portages where you will need to work as a team to carry your equipment.
