This camp is designed to build the following character traits:

  • Resilience: Participants will step out of the comfort of daily routines and into an adventurous and exciting, yet foreign and uncertain environment. Using the course's challenges, instructors will teach participants how to transfer the skills they learned to their everyday lives.
  • Interpersonal skills: Participants will create a strong sense of community with their peers as they travel through the wilderness, learning how to work together to accomplish daily tasks and make decisions.

Gain skills to help you succeed in high school by joining other male-identifying teens for a challenging wilderness adventure. The course is designed to help you explore what kind of person you want to become, teach you how to take charge of your life and realize you are capable of more than you think.

This expedition allows you to share a common experience with male-identifying teens. If you identify as non-binary, you are also welcome to join the passage for girls’ or boys’ groups depending on what you feel best suits you or consider the 2SLGBTQ+ expedition.

This course is eligible for a high school credit, PAD3O Grade 11 Healthy Active Living. If you choose to use the course toward a credit, the course work will be done through activities, group discussions and analysis, and daily journal reflections.

AREA & ACTIVITIES

This 14-day adventure will provide you with ample time to explore the stunning Rocky Mountain range of Treaty 7 Land; the traditional territories of Niitsitapi (the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai), the Îyârhe Nakoda, and Tsuut’ina Nations, as well as the traditional unceded territory of the Ktunaxa Nation and Métis Region 3.

The course begins with getting to know your team members and an introduction to backcountry living. Experienced instructors will teach you everything you need to know for your adventure, including how to pack an expedition backpack, stove use, shelter building, personal hygiene, minimal impact camping, and how to travel over various terrain both on and off-trail. By the end of the course, you will make decisions with minimal input from instructors.
