Experience the incredible West Coast wilderness on this 14-day sea kayak expedition!
Learn new skills, make new friends and create memories that will last a lifetime. This adventure will take you through Clayoquot Sound, on the edge of Pacific Rim National Park. As you kayak through ocean waves and around islands, make sure to keep an eye out for local wildlife. If you are lucky you may even spot a whale or two!
This course is eligible for a high school credit, PAD4O Grade 12 Healthy Active Living. If you choose to use the course toward a credit, the course work will be done through activities, group discussions and analysis, and daily journal reflections.
AREA & ACTIVITIES
This expedition will travel through the traditional territory of three Nuu- chah- nulth Nations: the Ahousaht, the Hesquiaht and the Tla-o-qui-aht Peoples, who have inhabited the land for time immemorial. Your group will move through the islands and inlets of one of Canada’s eighteen UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, camping on sandy beaches on the edge of ancient rainforests, enjoying west coast sunsets.
Sea kayaking: You will travel in either solo or tandem fibreglass sea kayaks through class 2 water as outlined by the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of B.C. During the expedition, your instructors will teach you paddling strokes, self and assisted rescue techniques, plus basic nautical navigation, including understanding tides, currents and weather.
