Kids who enrol in camps and programs inevitably want it to be a positive experience. At Positive Dance Experience (PDE), it’s right in their name. What’s unique about this dance program is that they offer very personalized attention so dancers of all levels are able to thrive. They do this with very small class sizes and by having a completely inclusive environment. Dancers commit to a full school year, ensuring they grow and stay disciplined. Kids build their self-esteem, make friends, and feel empowered to be the best dancers they can be. Instructors at PDE are very skilled in dance and teaching and inspirational to the students with what can be achieved in dance and in life. Director Chelsea Robinson (Miss Chelsea) gives each kid the special attention they need to flourish so no kid is ever left behind. The studio itself is spacious, clean, and gorgeous, with a positive vibe that gets kids moving the second they walk through the door.

I think what makes it unique is it's small enough that you really get the sense that the instructors get to know your child, what makes your child unique, what motivates your child, and what's going to bring out the best in your child. And it's really special because bonds are created even in a really short period of time as a result of that.
It's an interesting question because he also goes to a dance school during the year. It was natural for us to want to extend that. But for me, I think I knew it was the right fit because my son wanted to return to Positive Dance Experience (PDE) in the summertime. It wasn't just a full-year thing or a school-year thing, but it was something that he really wanted to return to in the summer and attend PDE as much as possible just because of the bonds he's created.
What the camp allows them to do is really focus in a very concentrated way on everything that they're learning and continue to really dial up that extra dose of fun, which I think we all want in the summertime.
I think there are two things. One of the things that I appreciate about PDE is the connection, that really powerful triangle between the instructors, the parent, and the child. I really enjoy my access to the instructors anytime I want to reinforce what it is that my child is learning during the day, but also to set them up for success in the summer program
I try to encourage my child to get back in touch with the fun of it. The pure dancing for the joy of dancing is something that I think makes PDE really unique. It’s a really high-caliber program, but they haven't lost touch with the joy of dancing that brings us there in the first place.
As you can imagine, being a boy in dance is not always the easiest thing in the world. Sometimes it's tough for him to talk about it with his friends. But I think as a result of the support that he gets at PDE, he's actually really proud to talk about it with his buddies. And he's actually even been able to convince some of his friends to consider the camp, which, I think, can sometimes be tough for boys to talk about dancing. So he really is proud of the work that he does at BDE and the fun that he has there and the connections he’s made there.
I think it's just really important to understand the support network that exists there for all shapes and sizes of children. This isn't a place where you need to conform in order to perform. I think that that's something that makes it really unique. I really appreciate the sense of belonging that I know my child feels there because he doesn't necessarily fit the mold of a traditional child who would be interested in that type of dance. The only thing that I would add is that it's just such an inclusive and supportive place for all types of kids who want to get in touch with the joy of dance.
