This program is designed to build the following character traits:
Self-regulation: Students in the intensive program must learn time management. It is a big commitment and students must balance their training with their academic pursuits. In training for ballet certifications, students learn to set goals and follow through on the steps to achieve them.
Creativity: Students learn to express themselves within the parameters of various dance styles. Understanding of music, presentation, costuming, and performance are all important aspects of dance training.
PSB & Interplay offers an Intensive Dance Program, a rigorous dance program designed for serious students for whom dance is their main activity. Entrance into the Intensive Dance Program is by audition only. Dancers must be seven years old before December 31 of the current school year. A child will be placed on his/her ability so they excel at their own level. If a student is accepted into the Intensive program, s/he will be placed into 2 ballet classes; 1 jazz class; and 1 modern class per week to start and increasing in hours to add pointe, repertoire, lyrical, contemporary and elective acro & hip hop over time. Intensive program dancers pursue certifications with both The Cecchetti Society of Canada and the Royal Academy of Dance. These are internationally-recognized programs. Current intensive students must re-audition each season.
