Daniels Design Discovery (In-Person) - Summer 2022

For anyone interested in a future career in design, the Daniels Design Discovery is a great opportunity to experience the intensive studio culture that characterizes most architecture programs. Our programs allow participants to build up a collection of drawings and models that will complement an admissions portfolio. Students are able to use the design facilities at the Daniels Building at 1 Spadina Crescent.

WHO?
The Daniels Design Discovery (In-Person)  is designed for late high school (grades 10, 11 and 12) and undergraduate students of all disciplines who are interested in architecture (Ages 15+). This program is open to all participants, including English-speaking international students.

WHAT & WHY?

Students are able to use the design facilities at the Daniels Building at 1 Spadina Crescent.

Course 1 develops basic site analysis, design, and form-making skills. It is a pre-requisite for enrolment in Course 2, which further specifies basic designs with program and construction principles, while exploring architecture's role in the city in relation to social, political and ecological issues. Both courses include the creation of a design portfolio.
 
The program will also include:

• Lectures by practicing architects and faculty. 
• Field trips to significant local buildings and professional offices. 
• One-on-one instruction and feedback. 
• Training in representation, model-building, and related skills.
• An introduction to design studio culture & practices.
• Periodic reviews where students present their work to graduate students, practicing architects and other design
• professionals.

WHERE?
The program will be delivered in-person at the Daniels Building at 1 Spadina Crescent. Students will have access to studios during program hours.

The courses are listed below. Course 1 is a pre-requisite to Course 2. Course prices listed below with bundled cost.

All fees include a $50 non-refundable administrative fee.

Discounts are available for U of T staff, faculty, students, and alumni.

Cancellation Policy

Registrants can cancel their application no later than June 1 and will receive a refund less a $50 cancellation fee per registrant per course/program cancelled. Refunds or credits are not available for any cancellation made after June 1. This is necessary to ensure that our instructors can be hired and trained in time for program delivery and are treated fairly with confirmed contracts.

Registrations received after June 1 are considered final. Refunds or credits are not available for registrations received after June 1.
