Changing how kids think about climate change from fear to empowerment is definitely a good thing. The Next Climate Fellowship is a program that aims to give kids the problem solving and critical thinking skills they need to do something about climate change. By changing the messaging that kids get of doom and gloom about climate change, and showing them what leaders in their community are doing to slow it down, kids feel like they can actually make a difference. Instructors all have experience of some sort working in climate change leadership and take Appleby College’s rigorous training before teaching the course. Kids participate in projects where they can brainstorm ideas and take action. The capstone project has kids building a green city of the future. Rather than feeling anxiety and depression about the state of the world, kids leave this course knowing they can be part of the solution.

Harrison Nolan, Director of the Next Climate Fellowship
We are so excited to begin offering the Next Climate Fellowship program. Climate change is one of the most important issues facing young people today. Not only is climate a growing concern for our society due to higher temperatures, food scarcity and more but it is also having a strong effect on the mental health of younger individuals.
Our program aims to help students better understand what climate change is, how it is affecting our planet and most importantly, how we are currently fighting climate change and where they can get involved. Our program is meant to bring hope back into the conversation around climate change. To help young people understand what work is being done around the globe to slow down and reverse climate change while showing them where they can have the greatest impact.
All of this is done in a fun and exciting environment where students can also focus on developing important leadership skills.
We hope to develop tomorrow's leaders in climate change and also in life. We hope you can join us on this journey.
