The Dewey Institute is very much an international school in the modern sense, in that it attracts students from across Canada and around the world seeking to move on to university in North America. The student body is defined largely by its diversity—learning with students from around the world can be a galvanizing experience. Interiors are crisp, clean, and with a university feel, which of course is absolutely intentional. The school has designed the spaces so that when students arrive at university, the environment feels familiar. The school is close to larger urban centres—Toronto and Ottawa are within a few hours’ drive—and benefits from the proximity to the internatioal transportation hubs found there. That said, it’s also close to some of the natural environments that the country is famous for, and Algonquin Park is nearby as well. The ideal student is one able to thrive in a dedicated academic environment with peers who share a drive and desire to arrive at the university of their choice, and to thrive while there.

They are overseen by a single administrative body, and they share some facilities, services, and extracurricular programs. The most obvious difference between them is focus: where Mentor College provides a program for students proceeding within the academic stream, and the TEAM providing a program for those proceeding within the applied stream. That said, it's the other differences—including style of instruction, class size, and individual attention—that ultimately distinguish the schools. Many students arrive at TEAM after struggling to meet their true academic potential within a more traditional academic setting. The ideal student is one who will benefit from the added support and attention, with particular attention to numeracy, literacy, and the development of sound learning skills. Due in part to the association with Mentor College and TSS, the facilities are modern and robust, as are student services and transportation.

"Dewey Institute is a boarding and day school with two campuses, featuring a diverse, multicultural learning environment, that aims to strike a balance between independent and team work. At Dewey, the success of each individual student is the primary focus of the school. Our high school programme is based upon clearly defined goals within a structured environment. Emphasis is placed on the compulsory core credits at the applied level, in preparation for admission to post-secondary college programmes. We stress the personal and academic growth of students in an environment that offers personal attention and small class sizes. All courses are offered in a full-year, non-semestered format to allow for continual learning throughout the entire academic session. In the elementary division, each student has an individualized programme (8:1 student-teacher ratio) for all subject areas. This small and supportive setting allows the student to accomplish work at his or her current level of success and to move on to challenging work. Small group instruction in core subject areas is given to upgrade the student’s skills. Within the classroom there are 2 teachers and 16 students, which offers a typical classroom social setting. For the "Youth Scientist Program" : - Students who are interested in AI, robotics, coding, and/or life sciences For the Arts Program: - Students who are passionate about the fine arts (painting, drawing, graphic design, etc.) or music For the English Language Program: - Dewey is a member of Language Canada, and offers General English Program and Academic English programs - General English is for ESL students who are still learning the language - Academic English prepares students, providing them with written skills to help them succeed at the high school/university level including lab reports, business proposals, etc. For the Special Education Program: - Students who qualify for special education, both gifted/enhanced students, as well as students who may require some teaching assistance *This program may involve university students from the Department of Special Education.

Upon an evaluation, the school will issue a letter of acceptance to students who are qualified to study at Dewey for the upcoming school year.
