KCC is impressive, beginning with a sparkling campus inclusive of a broad range of cutting edge facilities. It’s a larger school, and demonstrates all the benefits of size, including extensive in-class resources and extra-curricular programming. There’s a lot to do here, and the students who attend are typically keen to make the most of it. The faculty are required to take part in ongoing professional development, and are given lots of latitude to be creative in the delivery of the curriculum. And on it goes. The athletics facilities are extensive and absolutely up to date, the arts programming diverse and dedicated, and the cafeteria exemplary. The ideal student is one who is operating at the top of his or her peer group and looking to learn and grow within a values-based environment populated by those of a similar mindset.
View full reportThe Dewey Institute is very much an international school in the modern sense, in that it attracts students from across Canada and around the world seeking to move on to university in North America. The student body is defined largely by its diversity—learning with students from around the world can be a galvanizing experience. Interiors are crisp, clean, and with a university feel, which of course is absolutely intentional. The school has designed the spaces so that when students arrive at university, the environment feels familiar. The school is close to larger urban centres—Toronto and Ottawa are within a few hours’ drive—and benefits from the proximity to the internatioal transportation hubs found there. That said, it’s also close to some of the natural environments that the country is famous for, and Algonquin Park is nearby as well. The ideal student is one able to thrive in a dedicated academic environment with peers who share a drive and desire to arrive at the university of their choice, and to thrive while there.

This does not mean the school is uncaring, unsupportive, or non-responsive -- far from it. A school can have a rigorous academic culture and still provide excellent individual support. King's admits students from a wide range of academic and socio-economic backgrounds. Since King's offers only academic courses, students need to be prepared to be fully responsible, independent and autonmous learners. We will help each student on the journey to become that kind of learner by providing expert and highly engaging instruction in a positive and upbeat culture where students love to learn. While we welcome all students - domestic and international - Dewey offers specific programs which may suit students with certain interests. For the "Youth Scientist Program" : - Students who are interested in AI, robotics, coding, and/or life sciences For the Arts Program: - Students who are passionate about the fine arts (painting, drawing, graphic design, etc.) or music For the English Language Program: - Dewey is a member of Language Canada, and offers General English Program and Academic English programs - General English is for ESL students who are still learning the language - Academic English prepares students, providing them with written skills to help them succeed at the high school/university level including lab reports, business proposals, etc. For the Special Education Program: - Students who qualify for special education, both gifted/enhanced students, as well as students who may require some teaching assistance *This program may involve university students from the Department of Special Education.

you will be contacted by our Director of Admissions, Sharon Roebbelen. The last two report cards will be requested in preparation for a meeting. An interview will take place (either in person, accompanied by a school tour) or via Zoom, and will include the Director of Admissions, the applicant and parents or guardians. If both the school and family feel the King's program is appropriate for the student, an Invitation to Apply will be sent to the parent. The online application will be assessed and a conditional acceptance may be offered. Following the completion of financial arrangements, including the payment of Capital Levy (once per family), a final acceptance will be issued.
