Children's House Montessori, having begun operations in 1994, is well established. That it continues to be run by founding Principal Laurie Wilson Forbes continues the theme—this is a program that remains true to its founding principles, while drawing on a wealth of expertise and experience. The programming reflects the core ideals that Maria Montessori promoted in her work, those of respect, community, purposeful engagement, and self-directed learning. Staff are trained to international standards. Communication with parents is clear, open, and professional, something that begins even before enrollment. When families enroll they find more than a school, they find a home, which is exactly as it should be. The fee schedule is clear and detailed. Lunches are provided at the toddler and Casa levels, which is a lovely plus to the program.

A Rotherglen education places student learning at the centre of all our activities, programs and curriculum. Differentiated learning has been our approach since our very beginnings. We deliver a curriculum which provides students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge and develop positive values, attitudes and behaviours. In Casa (JK/SK) and our Primary program (Grade 1 to 3), our students develop independence and experience the joy of personal discovery through Montessori methods. A focus in the Casa Classroom is to foster independence and instill confidence in our students to explore their own potential. This is achieved by preparing the classroom environment with attractive, self- correcting materials for the children to learn. Students are taught grace and courtesy at a young age, which gives each child a heightened sense of respect for others and for themselves.

The main curriculum pace is non-standardized and is HIGHLY responsive to the pacing of individual students, (via differentiated instruction, differentiated assessment, etc). In theory, some students outpace the default/normalized curriculum, while others spend periods "behind schedule" if they need the extra time.

A school with a “supportive” academic culture focuses more on process than short-term outcomes: academic performance is a welcomed side-benefit, but not the driving focus. An entrance assessment for students entering Grade 1 is conducted on an informal basis with a school administrator and lasts approximately 30 minutes. Students in Grades 2 through Grade 8 complete a formal written assessment which takes approximately 90 minutes.
