It really is a castle, and the interiors are as striking as the exterior: turrets, arches, wood and stone. The school is also genuinely old, having been founded in 1874, though the building pre-dates the school. Yet, as ever, appearances can be deceiving, or at least can risk being made too much of. Trafalgar administration has, throughout its long history, consistently revised the curriculum and programs with an intention of providing, in a very literal sense, the best the world has to offer. That includes the adoption of the Singapore math and science curricula; Mandarin instruction; and writing instruction based on the program developed at the University of Chicago. A dedication to real-world learning has been built into the curriculum formally through the Beyond the Classroom initiative, which makes use of local resources and expertise, guided by the students' personal curiosities. Trafalgar offers an up-to-date, creative, and intentional program for girls preparing for university.
View full reportSome schools really do have it all, and College Bourget is one of them. Located near major urban centres, it also has the benefit of a bit of distance from them, allowing opportunities for a robust program of outdoor education and much else. The facilities, true to the school's long history, are stunning. The physical education spaces—from ice rinks to playing fields, to fitness and recreation spaces—are as good as it gets. There is a sense that you are in an institution with a long life and indeed, it's approaching two centuries since its founding. That said, classrooms and common spaces are modern and well-appointed. It’s the largest French-language boarding school and, language aside, one of the larger schools in the country. Day students outnumber the boarders, though for all, when on campus, there is a feeling of participating within a complete community, one in which all needs are met on campus. The school was begun by the Clerics of Saint Viator, and takes its name from the bishop of Montreal who served in the 19th century. While the foundation in humanist values remains, as does the religious tradition, the student population is notably diverse, both culturally and in terms of religious observance. It’s simply one of the best schools of its type in the country.

Traditional Math typically teaches a method or algorithm FIRST, and THEN teaches the applications for the method. Traditional algorithms are emphasized and practiced regularly: repetition and drills are frequently used to ensure foundational mastery in the underlying mathematical procedures. The traditional approach to math views math education as akin to building a logical edifice: each brick depends on the support of the previously laid ones, which represent mastery over a particular procedure or method. Spina Bifida This is a condition present at birth due to the incomplete formation of the spine and spinal cord. Dyspraxia (Developmental Coordination Disorder) This is a Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). Also known as "sensory integration disorder," it affects fine and/or gross motor coordination in children and adults. It may also affect speech. | ||||
