Children who struggle get extra resources to ensure they attain their learning goals. There are TAs to help children one-on-one to ensure they have a strong foundation in the fundamentals of math and literacy. CGS celebrates everyones successes, whether a child is particularly skilled academically, or if they have struggled and achieve a goal they set. Although a good problem to have, we were lucky enough to have children who do well in school and may have fallen through the cracks. CGS teachers did an exceptional job of ensuring they received the attention needed to keep them progressing. Our children moved on to academically focussed private schools and the transition was very smooth as they were well prepared.
The phonics program started at JK all the way thru to grade level is very consistent and systematic, fostering reading skill at an early stage and also continuously reinforcing the rules and applications as the students advance. Math program encourages different ways of thinking, cultivating critical thinking. The enriched academic program at CGS adequately prepared my daughter advance into the school of her choice.
I feel the academic program at CGS is above average. The class sizes are small and the teachers go above and beyond, so that combination creates a very rich academic foundation. The only part of the curriculum I do not find that strong is French (there has been some rotation in french teachers due to mat leaves).
I have been very pleased with the academic portion of my son's program. From the work his teachers send home, it seems like they do a good balance of Phonics, Writing and Math. I like that they send home completed work regularly so I can see how much he has progressed from the beginning of the year. I have noticed a huge change in his fine motor abilities over the past few months and I have his teachers to thank for that. He has also accumulated all of his letter sounds and has excellent number recognition. These are all skills I feel he wouldn't of learned if he were in a typical daycare preschool setting. There is no doubt in my mind that he will be extremely well prepared for JK.
