The parent association is active and school wide participation in events, including the highlight, Halloween Happening Party , provides opportunities to socialize but also raise funds for extra classroom experiences, such as Zoo to You and field trips. The parent community is friendly and in my experience are all looking for a similar experience for their young child in terms of a nurturing environment that offers a high quality academic program. The students come from relatively diverse backgrounds, culturally and from a home-life perspective with parents who have a stay-at-home parent or two working parents. There are opportunities for parents to volunteer at different events, which is a great way to get involved. There are a lot of kids who live locally which is great for arranging playdates.
Top marks for "community". All of our closest neighbourhood friends are other Children's Garden parents. I don't know why or how, but this school seems to be very good at attracting wonderful people. There is plenty of opportunity for parental involvement at the school. Pick up and drop off serve as social times for parents to connect, but also concerts, Halloween Happening (a wild and wonderful annual party for parents and kids alike) and other special events really foster the community feel. Parents help each other out, look out for one another's kids, etc. Just fantastic all around from a community perspective.
There is a strong sense of community at Children's Garden Nursury School. First, parents are encouraged to volunteer for the Parent Association and to donate their time at various special functions throughout the year such as the Halloween party and the Riverdale picnic. Second, the school takes an active approach with updating parents on what their child will be learning each month in the core curriculum as well as French, music, sportball, and drama classes. Third, short videos or pictures from the classroom are sent to parents frequently, which we thought was a nice touch. The school's focus on community have helped our daughter feel welcome there since day one, and have proven to be a major component in her enjoyment of her time at the school.
