Will I be required to volunteer my time with the school?
Private schools foster close relationships with past and current parents by relying on them for wisdom, insight and support in all sorts of ways. In some cases, schools formalize the arrangement in written form. Some schools pointedly invite parents to identify the nature and extent of their contribution by selecting from a list of opportunities. At the very least, it's mentioned in student handbooks. Parents should never feel overwhelmed by the weight of expectation, so if the subject of how much time a parent is expected to dedicate to a school doesn't come up in the admission interview, make a point of asking about it.
My kids went to both public and private school, and I had to volunteer in both systems. No matter where a child goes to school, parents are often expected to get involved.
