The school has between 50-60 students from junior kindergarten to grade 8. The typical class is a split class and consists of 10 to 15 students. Due to the high importance of the Catholic faith in the school, the student body that the school attracts are from families that are devout Catholic and share similar values. As a result, the student body is one of the best I've seen at a school. They interact very well together and bullying is pretty much non-existent. They are taught by the school to be kind and loving and that shows in the behaviour of the students. Any parent can feel relieved to know that their children are among a very well behaved student body that will help their own develop as well.
Guiding Light Academy has a smaller but tight knit student body that feels very much like a family. I love this setup because it enables individualized care, which means more success for each child. It is a more personalized experience where the students are familiar with each other. What stands out most about the general atmosphere is that it feels like a second home for my son. He is comfortable and feels safe to be himself without reservation or judgement. The dynamic is great between the students. Something that I found impressive was seeing how the older children at the school really look out for the younger ones, including them in activities and spending time with them. There is great interaction between all the students irrespective of grade levels.
The student body which ranges from pre K to grade 8 at Guiding Light Academy is very united. The classroom sizes are small and this allows for students to really develop relationships that are close with each other. The students at the school are friendly, helpful and accepting of each other. I have children in a variety of classrooms and I can see how their relationships have flourished with their classmates. I also enjoy watching how the older students grow and show compassion and care for the younger students and take on leadership roles. This can especially be seen in the events that take place during the year at the school, such as Mother's Day Celebration, Father's Day Celebration and Grandparents Day. It is really great to see how the older kids are mentors to the younger ones and how they each benefit from these relationships.
Guiding Light Academy is a small school compared with other private schools. But because of the size, it allows for close relationships to develop between the students. The students get to know each other very well and if there are any difficulties between students, they get rectified very quickly. Every student is friends with everyone else and no one gets left out. The Catholic spirit of the school helps to foster love of God and love for thy neighbour, the result being charitable behaviour between the students, as well as respect for their teachers and administrators. In the upper grades each student is given a role so that they can learn responsibility in fulfilling it as well as learning how to work with each other. Group work is encouraged which has really helped them develop their teamwork skills.
