A Fond Farwell

We feel incredibly privileged to be witness to how much your children have grown, academically and socially, at school. Thank you for sharing them with us! Our Final Assembly & Graduation is always a very special event and we thank you for joining us in celebrating the accomplishments of all of the students this year. Thank you to Emily and Jordan for organizing the assembly and to Lisa for creating the Graduate slideshow. The school year is so packed with activity and to see it all in review is lovely. We look forward to celebrating The Class of 2018 next year!

For those of you who were at the assembly, you know that the Principal’s Club was extremely productive this year. They raised a total of $4,024! Thank you for supporting all of their fundraising events throughout the year and showing them that their efforts can have a tangible effect on the lives of others. We also wanted to share with you that our Toonie Free Dress Days raised $950 this year. It is usually decided at the end of the school year where the money should be donated. After the Principal’s Club trip to The Children’s Book Bank in June, Marie learned that they are in real need of money (not just books) to pay staff and keep the building itself open for business. Marie wrote a cheque today on behalf of all of us at CGS. Please tell your children where the money went!

We wish everyone a safe and happy summer. If you are returning to CGS, we look forward to seeing you back on Thursday, September 7. If you are moving on to a new school, we’ll miss you! Good luck and please don’t forget to come and visit. Save the date for our CGS Alumni Open House on Thursday, January 19, 2018. 4:00-5:30pm.

Many of you were asking about Marie’s closing remarks from the assembly. Here they are…

Don’t become preoccupied with your child’s academic ability, but instead teach them to sit with those sitting alone. Teach them to be kind. Teach them to offer help. Teach them to be a friend to the lonely. Teach them to encourage others. Teach them to think about other people. Teach them to share. Teach them to look for the good.

This is how they will change the world.
