Innovative digital learning

At Delta West Academy (DWA), we have provided students in ECS-Grade 3 with tablets and set them up with a few different applications in which we will continue our communications with them.

Utilizing Class DoJo will allow students to engage with their teachers through regularly scheduled class times, chats and uploads. Accessing curricular content through posts on Weebly will ensure students maintain curricular standards and complete the objectives with a focus on skills, knowledge, and aptitude. Zoom virtual classrooms will allow a user-friendly modem for younger students to video conference with their teachers, administrators, and peers. With this application, the full curriculum will continue to be accessible for students and taught to our elementary community.

Grades 4-12 students also have two different avenues to explore and access their teachers through virtual classrooms. We have provided students in Grades 4-9 with individual Surface Go laptops and our high school students are able to use a personal electronic device in which our IT department is able to monitor and provide technical assistance when needed.

Edmodo will be utilized for assignment posts, exams, and quizzes. Through this modem, students will be able to keep up with their written work and teachers can continue the important job of assessing their skills and development. Microsoft Office Teams application will allow students to attend sessions through virtual video conferencing, see and correspond with their teachers, peers, and administrators. Students will also experience direct instruction using shared screens; allowing students to present within the digital platform as well.

At Delta West Academy, our goal is to maintain a high level of academic standard despite the alternative learning platform. While we appreciate the traditional methods of direct instruction, our shift in virtual classrooms will ensure our high level of academic rigor can still be delivered during this unprecedented time. Every student, whether in Junior Kindergarten or Grade 12 will still feel like they are apart of our school community as we find new and inventive ways to continue with on-line participation in spirit days, school events such as our Talent show and active participation in our alternative Phys. Ed and Performing Arts departments.

For Delta West Academy, this is a new trend in learning, and we recognize these virtual platforms will also be the wave of education in the future. At DWA, our students will be able to enter the upcoming school year with confidence in knowing their skills and knowledge base will not have been impacted by this pause in education. We are thrilled to have our students continue an inspired journey through Delta West Academy’s digital learning programs!
