Orangeville, ON | Grades JK - 8 | Shortlist
My children have gained so much in such a short time. All the staff is very compassionate about their roles as teachers. If there’s even a day where one staff member is away sick, another teacher will jump in for that day and will teach a class that day very effectively. This is something that really impressed me at OCS how everyone is a real team player. The staff at OCS take the time to explain where your children are academically and problem-solve to find ways for your children to excel and do their best in their areas of interest. They truly want all children to thrive and learn in all subject areas. My son and daughter have achieved so much with assistance from their EA support, if they had not received that support they would not be where they are now.
The quality of instruction at OCS has been phenomenal. The teachers work hard to creatively present the material and students learn how to problem-solve and correct and review their own work. Teachers are very good at providing feedback to students when needed. My daughter wrote a speech this year and had it edited by peers and her teacher also took the time to go through it individually with her and improve it. She ended up saying it for the school and going on to say it again with other schools present. Because of the teacher's help and encouragement, this hidden gift was developed at a new level this year. Teachers communicate well through emails and phone calls when necessary. My child had a rough week at one point this year and both her homeroom teachers messaged me that they were concerned and we were able to work it out together. It's so great to have a community working together to raise our children! Teachers and Resource at OCS have been great at helping our child succeed in areas that are more challenging. They have been able to provide EA support as needed throughout their time at OCS.
The teacher's dedication, and connection with their students stands out at OCS well above any experience our family had in the public system. We truly see that the teachers our children had this year express sincere love for their students; we appreciate their role in helping us raise our children in the faith, while they also deliver the education necessary for them to progress in school. The parent-teacher interviews, Zoom calls, emails, report cards, and sometimes quick chats at morning drop off keep us well connected in ensuring our kids are supported to succeed. I'm thrilled to say that they have been honest with us (my son failed a science project - and he deserved it), so that we can zero in on what needs to be worked on - be it academics, through to simply attention to detail and following instructions.
