"develops strong sense of community"

Overall Experience

A very strong school academically and develops strong sense of community. Often promoting community events and challenging their students. Felt the school prepared me well in terms of ability to engage with university level education but not in terms of life skills.

School Leadership

Strong leadership from individuals in administrative roles was present. They took a very large interest in the student body and their well being. All through it was mostly positive there were those in leadership whom you wouldn’t see except at select times and that gave the impression they didn’t care about their students.

The teaching was very strong in all areas of academia. The teachers were very professional but often kept the relationship between themselves and students very informal. They did inspire learning in many areas. In particular the, now retired, Mr. Reed was especially good at teaching with passion and caring for his students.

Academically it was a good school. Lot's of good teachers that took time to invest in their curriculum. Lack of variety of classes made it difficult to feel inspired at times. No computer classes was a negative but all core classes taught well. Lots of competing between students for grades was good.

The amount of extra-curricular activities provided by the school and it's leadership council were at times excessive and rarely inspired growth within students personal or otherwise. They often felt very forced and many were absolutely mandatory which was a weird dynamic. " You are forced to be here and have fun".

The student body was very small and so you got to know each other very well just by roaming the halls and going to class. The school was also very diverse and had people from all backgrounds. Student life could get clicky as there was often separation between dorm kids and town kids.

School Life

To summarize the student life experience at CHS it really depends on the co-curricular activities that you choose to participate in. That is typically where the people you will be spending the most time with will be and those relationships determine your experience.

The community was great when I was at the school and the student body being so small had the chance to also be very close. Parents were often encouraged to engage in the schools activities. In terms of the Alumni community I often engage with former classmates but not often is it encouraged by the school itself.

School Location

When you attend CHS there is almost nothing to do in Caronport itself. You will often find students traveling 15 minutes into moose jaw to do stuff and hangout.

From what I recall admissions process was fairly easy if a little long for a high school. It was't very stressful and the administration team was always willing to lend a helping hand.

University placement and counselling

There was no university counselling program when I was there. I felt that it was up to the students to figure out post-secondary education. There was a single fair with many representatives from different schools but it was not held until after the deadline for most post-secondary applications had past.
