Great school spirit

Student Experience

He has enjoyed many classes while attending CHS. The teacher and staff support has been helpful and beneficial in speaking into his life. What he has enjoyed most is the school activities such as ski trips, being on the football team and going on an educational trip to Italy and Greece. He has found the social aspect of high school and sometimes how it is handled disappointing. Although he has mainly been heard, his sense of belonging was not filled. He has greatly appreciated his teachers' support in and outside of the classroom. He also is looking forward to doing his work experience in a field that interests him.

School Leadership

The school administration is supportive and cares about each student. We feel that the sense of belonging could have been fostered more. Discipline was handled in a caring and understanding way, however, somewhat stricter boundaries need to be placed on those who are playing the powerful role of instigating problems for others. Communication is effective to parents and students. We have sensed that school leadership with students can often be a popularity contest rather than who would do a good job.

The instruction at Caronport High School is of high quality. The teachers are caring and go out of their way to help our son succeed. They know about their subject areas and are generally adept at communicating what their requirements are for assignments. Feed back could be more effective. Our son has received the support that he has needed.

The academic program fulfills the academic requirements needed to graduate high school and sets our son on course for a career. There is a variety of courses that are at the level he needs as well as a work experience course that helps him gain life experience in the field that he enjoys. There are not any obvious weaknesses as the High School administration and teachers are continually striving to change and grow as needed to provide outstanding academia. The atmosphere is one of fostering success in classes, responsibility, growth and spiritual growth and practicing their faith.

One of the reasons we moved to Caronport was for our son to be able to participate in the many opportunities the school has to offer. There are a number of extracurricular activities in the arts and sports: choir for credit, track and field, football, drama, photography, basketball, etc. These activities and the leadership within them teach our son the importance of character, godly sportsmanship and using the talents God has given him.

The size of the school is smaller and it has great school spirit. We have found that this is one area that needs much guidance and work in life skills and how God says to love and treat others. The atmosphere can lean towards the popular students leading the school while the weaker or socially awkward ones are left out. There was much talk about others and words were destructive toward our son in this aspect. Accountability and mentorship in students' actions and words is a high need.

School Life

There have been times he has enjoyed going, but more times he hasn't. This can possibly be improved in helping students find their sense of belonging, growing into them the importance of their value and self-talk and providing mentors one on one.

The involvement of parents is something that could be considered more. The community itself is a strong one that looks out for our children and other's children on a whole. We encourage each other in our parenting and often adults in the community speak into our kids lives through the churches and community activities.

School Location

The school location is a suitable one. It is joined to the college, church building and seminary so the high school students can rub shoulders with those going into the ministry and are achieving degrees. It is in a small town and distanced a little away from the city.

The registration process is set up in a way that helps you sign up for everything that you need. Staff are available and positioned around to help and answer questions. We are able to pay in instalments that helped us budget. The admissions went fairly smoothly and questions were answered.

University placement and counselling

We haven't experienced any support other than the guidance counsellor giving advice on what classes to choose for high school to get credits our son needed toward his chosen career. Unless our son gets educated in class about how to look up universities, colleges, etc, he hasn't been guided in this way.
