Rowntree Montessori Schools is currently attempting to strengthen its alumni engagement efforts, which I very much appreciate because I would love to stay involved in this community. With respect to parental engagement, I can confidently say there is no better school than RMS for having parents involved in the day-to-day and long term activities and goals of their children. Teachers and school leadership ensure to personalize every relationship they maintain with the parents of their students to ensure parents feel like they are right there alongside their children through their educational journey. Rowntree Montessori Schools also has a Parents' Association, the RMSPA, that organizes events for students and parents alike to increase the sense of community and provide forums where parents can interact with teachers and other parents.
The broader Rowntree Montessori Schools (RMS) community is very inclusive and diverse. The school, in particular, offers a broad range of services to the children, families and wider communities in addition to the core business of teaching and learning for the students. Parent involvement at RMS ranges from an active Parent Association that consistently engage in fundraising activities for the development of the institution to the opening of parent volunteers to participate in school trips, chaperoning students. Additionally, RMS opens its doors to host parents and grandparents to a designated International Day were diverse cultures intertwine. This results in the strengthening of families, building community support, and increasing student achievement and success. The administration of RMS has developed positive relationships with community leaders and had built a network of links to other organisations and individuals. This is evident with Rowntree Montessori Schools (RMS) being nominated twice for the 2018 & 2019 Brampton Board of Trade Business Excellence Award.
At RMS parents are encouraged to volunteer during field trips as well as concerts etc. Its a great way to get involved. The parent community is great. The PTA community also organizes some amazing events such as movie nights and socials. What's also great is that the school takes parents feedback seriously and incorporates it when it can. I believe the school truly appreciates and encourages parent involvement in all aspects. It terms of community and outreach RMS is excellent at organizing activities where the kids are able to learn the value of giving back for example donations towards Terry Fox run, mitten tree, toys for tots and others. RMS has built a very inclusive community where teachers, parents and students opinions are heard and it counts!
From what I have seen, the parent community seem to be a vibrant one as there are alot of activities that fosters parent inclusivity. Parents are encouraged to participate and ask questions, request for feedbacks, make enquiries and generally be a part of the life of the school. Parents are definitely involved and encouraged to be involved. Activities like parents volunteering on the students field trip in my opinion is a fantastic idea for those that can participate. It gives parent and child the opportunity to build memories together even in school. Also movie nights for parents helps to build and foster some sort of relationship between parents. Provision of more opportunities for parent(s) participation is definitely a great idea as it will help strengthen that spirit of community in the RMS.
