The School is conveniently located near major highways and transit. The School is tucked away in the middle of a street where other schools, churches and businesses reside. The children primarily remain on school grounds but will participate in activities at a nearby church (e.g. concerts and festivals). Similar to most schools, the children do participate in field trips and activities offsite and are bussed to and from the School.
It is convenient to go to the Giles School. We sometimes take a bus to the school. After getting off the bus, our child, holding her school bag, walks from the bus stop at York Mills Road through Scarsdale Road with me back and forth the school. With no complaint and no hesitation, we shared stories and jokes that happened at the school. Several times after school, we enjoyed an ice-cream at a mall at York Mills Road very nearby, so school life can extend a little during the pick-up moments.
The school is located in a safe neighbourhood. There are several other private schools on the same street. Most school activities take place on school grounds. However, the students will walk to a nearby church for gym class (grade 2 and above). This is also where some assemblies are held and where the children will go to watch theatrical performances. The school is easily accessible.
The school has two good age-differentiated play structures for recess, as well as green space for them to run and play sports in. The children do not go off the school grounds unless it is for one of the many school educational trips. The older students have sometimes gone with their teacher for an organized lunch at one of the restaurants at the local mall, which is always fun for them.
The Giles School is located in a great suburban area, on a small side street off of a major street. It is close to the 401 as well as the DVP which makes is quite easy to access no matter where you are coming from. The street is full of private schools so there are always kids and families around. Due to the fact that the school is a primary school, kids do not leave the school property.
The school is located fairly centrally, near main highway arteries. The one challenge the school has is a need for a larger physical space/auditorium on the school grounds for physical health education or other school events. Currently, the school uses a space at a nearby church, so moving the children back and forth does present some challenges in terms of convenience.
