"A mini United Nations"

Student Experience

My daughter Kristen is having an amazing time at UWC-Adriatic and is making new friends from different countries.. The school offers the International baccalaureate and accepts students from all over the world. As such, it operates as a mini united nations where students are encouraged and inspired to reach their full academic potential, while at the same time maintaining a balanced life with exciting sporting endeavours and an outreach program of community service. Because it is an IB program, the academics at UWC-Adriatic are rigorous and students who go there score very well. My daughter is excelling in her studies and maintains that because school life is balanced between studies, sports and service she doesn't feel the pressure of studying 24-7. Studying with kids from all over the globe gives her insight into others' perspective and a broad worldview.

School Leadership

UWC has excellent school leadership. They encourage students to take control of their academics and life choices and help them understand the value of taking into consideration the views of others and how choices impact others. There is a rigorous application process that weeds out those who don't see their education as a force to unite and make a real difference in the world, whether in education, politics, science, medicine or environmental sustainability. School leadership is positive and highly effective.

Our daughter has nothing but good things to say about her teachers. They have inspired her to work hard and question everything. UWC offers inspiring education - something difficult to find in a regular school setting.

UWC offers the International Baccalaureate program and as such provides an education second to none. Students study with kids from all over the world so it helps them to get a better perspective of our global village and how each of them can use their individual skills and talents to make the world a healthier and more sustainable place to live. The school provides career councillors to help students recognize the areas they excel in and are inspired by. Students who graduate from UWC are accepted into renowned universities and colleges.

There are a wide variety of extracurricular activities at UWC. So far my daughter has done sailing, X-country skiing, hospice volunteering and this term will play the cello in the music program. I think the extracurricular activities at UWC are the basis for its success as a formidable school. The expectation that life is so much more than being book smart allows students to thrive in all aspects of their life, just not academics. This in turn translates into exceptionally high IB marks. Students are well-rounded and come out of the gate ready and excited to change the world together.

The student body at UWC is outstanding. The school accepts students from all over the world. They study together, eat together, adventure together and plot how they are going to change the world together. It truly is a united force to confront the world's challenges head on.

School Life

Going to UWC has changed my daughter's life. In fact, not long ago she said, "I have never been this tired and this happy in all my life." The school has a demanding academic schedule coupled with an equally demanding schedule of personal growth and service. It is transformational to students and to the communities they operate in.

The worldwide UWC community has a phenomenal outreach program to students alumni and parents. Each individual can then decide their level of involvement and commitment to the organization.

School Location

My daughter, Kristen, attends UWC-Adriatic which is one of 17 UWC schools worldwide. Her school is located in Duino, Italy and is situated in an idyllic location overlooking the Adriatic and next door to a castle. Students venture beyond the school grounds to complete community service or sporting events. They are encouraged to go explore the world cultural sites in the area and partake in community activities. They are treated as young, respectable adults and encouraged to learn not only their schoolwork, but also about the people and world around them.

Start researching UWC early and see if it is the right fit for you. Start thinking about the application process in Grade 10 and don't be afraid to reach out to current and past students for help. They are a wealth of information and can get you in touch with people who have similar interests, so that together you can see if any of the 17 United World Colleges is right for you.

University placement and counselling

Guidance councillors are on campus to assist each student with the formidable university application process. United World College invites universities from all over to hold information sessions right at the UWC campus. This provides students with first hand knowledge of the university and makes the application process less daunting.
