Members of the editorial advisory board assist in the selection of issue themes, review and provide feedback on article proposals, and suggest potential feature articles and writers. Furthermore, they promote and encourage their colleagues in independent schools to contribute to, distribute and read Dialogue.

Audrey Hadfield is founder and executive vice-president of MacLachan College in Oakville. Ontario. She is vice-chair of the Independent School Associations of Ontario (ISAO), a board member of the Canadian Educational Standards Institute (CESI), and former member representing independent schools on the Governing Council of the Ontario College of Teachers.

Catherine Raaflaub

Prior to her current position, Catherine Raaflaub was head of school at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir in Calgary, Alberta, from 2004 to 2006. Previously, she held positions at Ridley Day College, Country Day School and Appleby College. Catherine is especially committed to enhancing education with technology and the merits of co-education. She achieved her PhD in education science in 2004.

Dave Bird is a certified Ontario Principal and Treasurer of both the Ontario Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and of Spectra - Partners in Specialized Education. Since 2000, he's been the Principal of Pinehurst School in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Dorothy Byers

Prior to joining St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School, a JK to UE single gender school six years ago, Dorothy Byers was with the Peel District School Board for 23 years as a teacher, department head and vice principal. Although her teaching subjects are English, drama and geography, she initiated FIRST robotics and LEGO League programs at SMLS as demonstration of her passion for developing non-traditional learning opportunities for girls.

Fred Herfst

After serving as teacher and then principal from 1964-1985 in schools affiliated with Christian Schools International, Fred Herfst became executive director of the Federation of Independent School Associations in British Columbia (FISA) in 1986. FISA currently represents 270 independent schools enrolling 59,000 students. He negotiates educational policy issues with the BC Government, and serves on the Education Advisory council reporting to the Deputy Minister.

Gillian Martin

Gillian Martin has been a Senior English teacher at Trafalgar Castle School in Whitby, Ontario since 2001. She spends her days engaging the girls in literature (her passion!), and encouraging students to publish their work in school publications, as well as outside magazines and online journals such as Writers In Electronic Residence and What IF? Magazine for Canadian Teens. Gillian also coaches the swim team, and works as a producer in school musicals.

Prior to assuming his duties as assistant head of school at Albert College in Belleville, Ontario, Kristopher was the director of academics at Bayview Glen School in Toronto, Ontario.

Mark has been involved in Christian education for 25 years as a principal and has served as ACSI Eastern Canada's Regional Director for the past 17 years. He was founding principal of four Christian schools. Mark graduated from York University, Toronto Teachers' College and the Canadian Securities Institute. He speaks at conferences throughout North America and leads programs to strengthen Christian schools in Haiti.

Dr. Paul Bennett, headmaster of the Halifax Grammar School, joined HGS in September 2005 after serving for eight years as headmaster of Lower Canada College in Montreal, Quebec. Born and educated in Toronto, Paul's teaching career has spanned six schools and three provinces. He has been widely recognized for his Canadian history teaching and textbooks.

Susan Hazell

Susan Hazell received her BA Honours French and Spanish from Mount Allison University and her Bachelor of Education from Queen's University. She has been teaching in independent and public schools for 27 years and was the executive director of the Canadian Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) from 2001-2004.

Todd Royer

Todd has a BA from Taylor University in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and a M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey. He is a graduate of the Waldorf Teacher Education program at the Rudolf Steiner Centre Toronto and completed the Waldorf Collaborative Leadership program in 2006. Todd has taught at the Toronto Waldorf School since 1998 and has served as faculty chair since 2003. He enjoys playing music, woodworking and dreaming about building a straw bale house.
