Camp Life

Earn a CAMP MBA
By: Kate Horton, Glen Bernard Camp
nature day
The best camps offer environments that are deliberately designed, intentional incubators of youth development.

The next generation of CEOs are already learning how to climb the corporate ladder... in a high ropes course. Each summer, campers develop attitudes and skills that are essential building blocks for long-term career achievement.

When it comes to navigating a career in the modern workplace, skills and attitudes are a valuable complement to academic knowledge. Developing the right attitudes can influence future accomplishment. Strong, transferable skills, such as communication, decision-making, teamwork and leadership, lay the groundwork for success in a wide variety of work environments.

So what is it about summer camp that gives kids a lasting advantage?

The best camps offer environments that are deliberately designed, intentional incubators of youth development. These camps provide a supportive community in which role models lead by example; perseverance and effort are recognized as high achievements; and campers and staff learn to be responsible, independent and accountable adults.

The process by which campers acquire these skills and attitudes should be fun, but it is no accident. Every aspect of the camp community-program, staff, facility and activities-is targeted toward the mission of nurturing positive personal growth.

Ask former campers about their experience and many will agree: Life skills learned on the playing field, ropes course and waterfront remain relevant long after camp days are over. A "camp MBA" is a lifelong investment that parents, and campers, never regret.

A summer camp, and summer campus, tradition for over 85 years - Glen Bernard Camp
