"For me, the difference between being a mediocre student-athlete and an exceptional student-athlete was having the opportunity to learn and practice in an environment conducive to my academic and athletic aspirations. School and sport were essentially blended together. Academics began to drive athletics and vice versa. I always had the motivation to excel in the classroom and in athletics; I just needed the structure to allow me to channel my efforts in the right direction." - Brodie Merrill, professional lacrosse player, on the need for sports schools
The benefits of participating in amateur sports are well documented. Sports, in general, are an important aspect of many societies throughout the world. We hold in high esteem athletes who demonstrate elite-level skills in a given sport. However, we fail to recognize that professional/elite athletes began their journey as amateurs.
With the growing opportunities available to student-athletes, there is an increase in programs dedicated to their development. Those programs, however, often fail to connect academics and athletes. The ultimate solution is sport schools that promote academic and athletic performance, and that cater to the needs of dedicated students who are also dedicated athletes.
The Hill Academy offers a platform specifically designed for student-athletes. While students are engaged in an outstanding academic program, they are working at a level of sports training normally available only at the college/university level, enabling each individual to maximize their full potential and ultimately reach the next level.
