Established in 2005, SPECTRA is an association of independent specialized education schools, allied professionals and informed parents. Since that time, they have supported one another by sharing policies, procedures and programming, by offering discounted certifications in First Aid and crisis prevention training, and by designing professional development opportunities for school administrators.
Not exclusive to independent schools and administrators, SPECTRA welcomes parents and educational consultants, amongst many others to work together towards one goal—specialized education: the recognition that each child must be uniquely valued according to his or her own individual needs.
In that collaborative spirit, the association continues to network with each other, public/separate schools, with special education groups and professionals, parents and other independent schools, to share professional activities and resources.
On Thursday, January 17, SPECTRA is hosting a day-long professional development event for all independent school administrators. Held at the beautiful Kempenfelt Conference Centre, just off Highway 400 south of Barrie, workshops will cover due diligence, risk management, individual education plans, ONSIS electronic filing, parent relations, policies and procedures, school-wide classroom management strategies, and staff relations. SPECTRA is Ontario’s ONLY association offering memberships to all who are interested in specialized education and encourages parents, consultants, educators and schools to join its community and stay up-to-date with notice of all dinner meetings, networking opportunities, certifications and professional development sessions.
