Montessori can mean different things to different people, and programs and facilities can vary between schools. That said, if you knew very little about what Montessori is, Royal Cachet may well reflect the image that you would have in your mind. The school operates out of a dedicated building, purpose built to house the Royal Cachet program. That's a plus. Within it the administration seeks to provide a setting and a model of instruction that remains very close to the intentions and techniques outlined by Maria Montessori. This is very much the school for those looking for a very traditional, dedicated, consistent application of the Montessori method. The ideal student is one who thrives in a play-based, constructivist learning environment.
Emmanuel began more than 40 years ago with just 38 students in its founding year. It’s grown considerably, building out the program to include the early years, increased enrolment, and a move to its current location. In addition to the provision of an authentically bilingual learning environment, families are drawn by the attention to values, something that underwrites instruction in all areas of the curriculum. The school is very much a community of peers, a group that is formed around shared interests, values, and goals. The ideal student is one who will thrive within a vibrant, globally oriented setting, and who is looking forward to post-secondary education.

RCMS has authentic Montessori programs for children 3 mos. to 12 yrs. & is licensed by the MEDU/CCEYA with low student:teacher ratios. Our buildings have large windows & HVAC systems to create bright classrooms with clean, fresh air for our students’ health. Large outdoor play areas complement our large gyms. Our teachers are MACTE-Accredited & educate & nurture children in our spacious, healthy, family environments. Our students have won 1st places in Markham’s writing & art competitions every year since 2009.
Founded in 1975, Emmanuel is an inter-denominational Christian school that offers a caring, faith-based environment where academic and extracurricular programs are guided by the pursuit of excellence. Our bilingual elementary and high school enriched programs allow students to master both official languages. Students are encouraged to reach their full potential through visual and media arts, dance, drama, music, science fairs, public speaking competitions, sports, mission work and various leadership opportunities.

At Emmanuel Christian School, we strive to create a caring yet rigorous learning environment that caters to students’ individual growth and development. Our academic programs are designed to help students gain a greater understanding of the world around us and discover their God-given purpose and design.
Our extracurricular programs enhance our students’ experience by providing them with opportunities to further develop their gifts and talents through athletics, arts, music, and much more. Our students also refine their character through opportunities to serve and develop compassion for others. We provide each student with an experience steeped in excellence, while being rooted in Christian values. Ultimately, we want each one of our graduates to be well equipped for their future educational and life pursuits.
Founded in 1975, we have always felt that bilingualism is at the heart of the school. In order to better promote a comprehensive, diverse program with flexibility that is in the image of our multicultural student body, we are no longer requiring English eligibility for students to attend our High School. We feel that this will ensure the next generation of Emmanuel graduates will be best prepared in both English and French languages, so that they can thrive whether they stay in Quebec or explore other opportunities. Whether local or international, all students can benefit from our rich linguistic environment.
Over the years, many parents have commented on the caring environment and strong community bonds that cause them to send their children to our school. We hope that you will consider joining our school family, as we create a partnership to enhance your child’s academic, physical, social, and spiritual development.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Liberal Arts
Information not available
Particularly popular in the younger grades (preschool to elementary), but sometimes available all the way up to high school, Montessori schools offer an alternative vision to the standard lesson format of most classrooms. Instead of listening to whole-class lessons, Montessori classrooms allow students to choose which "tasks" or activities interest them. These tasks centre around special Montessori puzzles - their essential feature being they contain a right answer and allow for selfcorrection. A strong emphasis is therefore placed on lessons being concrete and rooted in practical experience, along with students developing a sense of self-sufficiency, confidence and curiosity.
Liberal Arts curricula share with traditional programs their emphasis on core knowledge-acquisition, but tend to borrow more best practices from the progressive approach. A Liberal Arts program might still feature group work and projects, for example, contrary to the more singular emphasis on tests and essays at a Traditional program.

Royal Cachet Montessori Schools provide education based on the methodology developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. RCMS offers authentic Montessori programs and is licensed by MEDU. Our classes are directed by MACTE accredited Montessori teachers using a full spectrum of authentic Montessori training materials. The children manipulate these specialized training materials to learn and flourish.
We pursue excellence in all facets of education including academics, extra-curricular activities, and character development. Our approach is based on Christian values and includes Bible teaching in order to equip students to make educated choices and have a positive impact in the world.
Traditional Math
Traditional Math typically teaches a method or algorithm FIRST, and THEN teaches the applications for the method. Traditional algorithms are emphasized and practiced regularly: repetition and drills are frequently used to ensure foundational mastery in the underlying mathematical procedures. The traditional approach to math views math education as akin to building a logical edifice: each brick depends on the support of the previously laid ones, which represent mastery over a particular procedure or method. Traditional Math begins by giving students a tool, and then challenges students to practice using that tool an applied way, with progressively challenging problems. In this sense Traditional Math aims to establish procedural understanding before conceptual and applied understanding.

Equal balance
Programs that balance systematic and process approaches equally likely have an emphasis on giving young students ample opportunities to write, while providing supplementary class-wide instruction in grammar, parts of sentences, and various writing strategies.
Information not available
Our approach to teaching writing in the early grades is systematic in French and more process-based in English.

Core Knowledge
Usually focused on teaching history and geography at an early age, the core knowledge approach uses story, drama, reading, and discussion to teach about significant people, places, and events. Breadth of content and knowledge is emphasized. The curriculum is often organized according to the underlying logic of the content: history might be taught sequentially, for example (as students move through the grades).

Our Cycle One Elementary program uses the Expanding Communities approach, while Cycles Two and Three move into Core Knowledge.

Academic
Montessori programs aimed at preschool and Kindergarten- aged children allow young learners to choose which “tasks” or activities interest them. These tasks centre around special Montessori puzzles -- the essential features of these puzzles being they contain a “right answer” and allow for self-correction. A strong emphasis is therefore placed on learning being concrete and rooted in practical experience, along with children developing a sense of self-sufficiency and confidence. Specially trained teachers act as guides, introducing children to progressively more difficult materials when appropriate. A Montessori classroom is typically very calm and orderly, with children working alone or, sometimes, in small groups.
If you want to learn more about Montessori education, check out our comprehensive guide. You can also check out our guide to Montessori preschools, elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools.
Academic-based preschools and Kindergartens are the most structured of the different types, and have a strong emphasis on math and reading readiness skills. These programs aim to expose children to what early-elementary school is like. While time is still allotted to free play, much of the day is built around explicit lessons guided by the teacher. Classrooms often resemble play-based ones (with different stations set up around the room), but at an Academic program the teacher leads students through the stations directly, and ties these activities to a whole-class lesson or theme.
The classrooms at Royal Cachet Montessori School are equipped with a full spectrum of authentic Montessori training materials. The MACTE accredited Montessori teachers guide the students through the many activities of the Montessori curriculum. The children and staff enjoy the bright and clean facilities with high capacity HVAC systems for their well-being.
We offer a weekly Swim & Gym Program through the Pointe Claire Aquatic Centre.
Standard-enriched
The main curriculum accelerates beyond the pace of the provincial one; ALL students do the work of OLDER public-school peers in tangible and measurable ways. This accelerated pace is maintained by the teachers and school, (through textbook selection, topic selection, grading, assignment standards and expectations, etc).
Broadly-speaking, the main curriculum -- like that of most schools -- paces the provincially-outlined one. This pace is steady and set by the teachers and school. The curriculum might still be enriched in various ways: covering topics more in-depth and with more vigor than the provincial one, or covering a broader selection of topics.
The multi-age grouping is promoted in the pre-school classrooms since the younger students look up to and learn from their more senior associates. The more mature students re-enforce their learning, they become more out-going while assisting the younger students, and they take on leadership roles in the classroom.

Supportive
A school with a “supportive” academic culture focuses more on process than short-term outcomes: academic performance is a welcomed side-benefit, but not the driving focus. This does not mean the school lacks standards, or has low expectations for its students: a school can have a supportive academic culture and still light the fire of ambition in its students. It does mean, however, the school provides a less intensive culture than schools with a “rigorous” academic classification, and is focused more simply on instilling a love of learning and life-long curiosity.

The Montessori approach is to provide many training materials for the students to choose from and the supportive guidance of teachers to challenge the students to excel.
We challenge and motivate our students to pursue academic excellence along with excellence in character and citizenship. We work hand-in hand with parents to help students achieve their full potential by providing the support they need in order to meet these high expectations.

Balanced
"Equal emphasis is placed on a balance of priorities: intellectual, emotional, social and physical cultivation."
Spiritual
The goal is to cultivate "individuals with inner resourcefulness, strong faith and respect for God or a higher power."
Intellectual
The goal is to cultivate "academically strong, creative and critical thinkers, capable of exercising rationality, apprehending truth, and making aesthetic distinctions."
Balanced
"Equal emphasis is placed on a balance of priorities: intellectual, emotional, social and physical cultivation."
On the academic side, the use of Montessori training materials and the guidance provided by the Montessori trained teachers enable the students to learn and excel above the provincial standard. The Montessori approach is inherently a balanced educational method with work in the core subjects of math and language, plus learning in culture, practical life and sports activities.
Our educational program encompasses excellent academics and meaningful opportunities for spiritual growth in order to equip our students to become well-balanced individuals who are confident, independent, tolerant and adaptable. Our students grow to become intellectually curious, analytical and reflective learners. They acquire skills that help them to become principled, tolerant and supportive community members and active contributors to society.
