(5) Student Experience
My daughter has had a truly positive experience at Alderwood Academy. The teachers are incredibly supportive, understanding, and genuinely invested in each child’s growth. One-on-one learning allows her to feel seen, confident, and encouraged every step of the way. The school fosters individuality, challenges kids to think outside the box, and turns every opportunity into a meaningful learning experience. Lessons are interactive and hands-on, and children learn not only academics but also life skills, like cooking, while building strong social skills. Clear expectations around behaviour and respectful interactions guide the children in developing responsibility and confidence. My daughter is learning three languages—Polish, English, and French—which she enjoys in this nurturing environment. She especially loves the school trips, which are fun, engaging, and educational. Alderwood Academy celebrates each child’s milestones and successes, supports them through challenges, and provides a safe, inclusive environment. Everything is done with one goal in mind: giving the kids the best chance in life. Overall, her experience has been outstanding, and she looks forward to every day at school.
Why Alderwood Academy?
We chose Alderwood Academy because it felt like the right place for our child to really grow. From the very beginning, it was clear that the teachers truly see each child as an individual, recognizing their strengths and supporting their needs. The one-on-one learning and personalized attention have made a real difference in her confidence and academic growth. We also loved that the school focuses on life skills as much as academics. It’s not just about learning ABCs—our daughter is developing practical skills, social confidence, and independence, which we know will help her succeed in all areas of life. We looked at other schools, but the combination of a strong academic program, individualized support, and emphasis on life skills made Alderwood Academy stand out. It felt like the place where our child could thrive—both academically and personally.
Expectations vs. Reality
Alderwood Academy has truly exceeded our expectations. We’ve seen so much progress in our daughter—she’s growing not just academically, but socially and personally as well. Her confidence has blossomed, she’s making strong friendships, and she genuinely looks forward to school every day. The one-on-one attention and hands-on, interactive lessons really make her feel supported and engaged in her learning. What’s been even more wonderful is how the school goes beyond academics. They teach life skills, celebrate each child’s milestones, and encourage creativity and individuality. It’s a nurturing, inclusive environment where kids feel safe to explore, try new things, and learn from every experience. As the school continues to grow, we hope it will move to a location that offers an even better environment, giving the children more space to learn, play, and explore. Overall, we couldn’t be happier with our choice—Alderwood Academy has been a fantastic place for our daughter to thrive.
Your Advice
Choosing a school for my young child was a big decision, and I wanted to make sure she would be safe, supported, and in an environment where she could truly learn, thrive, and be seen and heard. I explored many options and took my time to make this decision. I called the school several times with questions, and at no point did I feel rushed or pressured. The principal took the time to address all my concerns and allowed me to think things through carefully. On her first day, the care and thoughtfulness went beyond my daughter—she even checked in on me, knowing I was nervous (and yes, a little emotional!). That human side of the school really stood out to me. I can’t tell any parent exactly what to do, but I will encourage you to take a chance on this school. From my experience, it’s a place where children are valued, supported, and given every opportunity to grow.
