THE HOCKEY EQUALITY SCHOLARSHIP IS AN AID TO HELP STUDENT-ATHLETES OF BIPOC BACKGROUND, IN THE ONTARIO HOCKEY SYSTEM, ATTAIN THEIR ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC GOALS BY LOWERING FINANCIAL BARRIERS FOR EDUCATION AND ELITE HOCKEY TRAINING. IT IS A ONE-YEAR, FULL ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP FUNDED BY BOTH THE NHL (50%) AND BLYTH ACADEMY (50%) AND FACILITATED BY HOCKEY EQUALITY. THROUGH THE SCHOLARSHIP, STUDENTS-ATHLETES RECEIVE BLYTH ACADEMY’S PRIVATE EDUCATION WITH ACCESS TO SMALL CLASS SIZES AND ONE-ON-ONE TEACHER SUPPORT WHILE ALSO TAKING PART IN THE CAMPUS’ DAILY ADVANCED HOCKEY TRAINING AT THE SCOTIABANK POND WITH ELITE HOCKEY COACHES. STUDENTS ALSO RECEIVE A CUSTOM HOCKEY FITNESS TRAINING PROGRAM IN THE CAMPUS’ ON-SITE FITNESS FACILITY AND THE CAMPUS MEAL PLAN, PROVIDING THEM WITH FRESH AND HEALTHY SNACKS AND LUNCHES ON-CAMPUS, EVERY DAY.
