(5) Student Experience
My children absolutely LOVE attending BCA. They feel truly loved and cared for by their teachers, and even though it is not where they started the elementary education, they were able to form fast and lasting friendships with other students. Every evening when I pick them up after school and ask how their day went, I always get one of two answers: “Great!” or “Awesome!” This is often quickly followed by a breakdown of what was most enjoyable as well as the not-too-enjoyable portions.
(4.5) School Leadership
What stands out the most is the genuinely caring nature of all the teachers, the principal and the other administrators. Problems are communicated well and promptly to parents and solutions are inclusive of both parents and children, in my experience. As our family is of African-Canadian descent, I can honestly and gladly say that neither my children nor I have had not even one instance of feeling discriminated against nor unfair treatment. In fact, staff at BCA have told us again and again how pleased they are to have my children be a part o fathering school. In fact, due to some “financial constraints” that arose, my husband and I were not sure we would send out children back to BCA. However, one very heartfelt and caring email from one of the administrators changed all that, and we found a way to “make it work.”
(4.5) Teaching
BCA’s curries without a doubt, very rigorous. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. The teachers challenge all of my children to go beyond their comfort zone, in order to be better readers, writers, spellers and all-around exceptional students, My kids all LOVE their teachers, and even though they are not always thrilled at all the homework they have to do, they won’t complain about the teachers—just the workload. BCA’s teachers are some of The most passionate I have ever had the pleasure of partnering with. Their love for the kids at BCA is so great, that even when I interact with those that don’t teach my children, they know something special about each of them, and are always very positive in their comments. Bottom line is that BCA teachers genuinely care about the students in their charge...and it shows. Merry
(4.5) Academics
BCA has a rigorous but engaging curriculum. Given that my children have attended two other similar schools prior, it appears that BCA is ahead in some critical areas. For instance, book reports and essays start at earlier grades than at my children’s former schools. For this I am grateful. It means that they are being taught to be critical thinkers from early on, which puts them light years ahead of others elsewhere. One of the main reasons I chose BCA, was because of their “Enriched Programming.” Students get to explore their other interests, talents and abilities through other than strictly academic programs. This I appreciate because it means they’ll be more rounded and are more likely to have a better school experience than many others. My grade 8-er is excited about high school next school year, because she is being prepared for it from now.
