The right school can shape the direction of a child’s life. Long after students have forgotten individual lessons, they often remember the teachers who understood them, the friendships that sustained them, and the place where they first felt truly known. At Choice, we strive to be that kind of school.
Founded in 1985, Choice is an independent school in Richmond dedicated to high-ability, gifted, and twice-exceptional learners. These students often learn at a different pace, explore ideas with unusual depth, and bring remarkable curiosity, creativity, and intensity to the classroom. They thrive when their learning environment recognizes these differences and responds with appropriate challenge, flexibility, and support.
Our experienced educators adapt the BC curriculum to provide greater depth, breadth, and opportunity for inquiry. Through critical thinking, problem-based learning, interdisciplinary projects, the arts, field studies, and hands-on experiences, students are encouraged to ask meaningful questions, pursue their interests, and stretch toward the edge of their abilities.
Small classes allow us to know each student well. We recognize individual strengths and differences while supporting academic, social, and emotional growth. A typical day may include students investigating chemistry, robotics, literature, environmental science, music, or a question sparked by their own curiosity. Our greenhouse and environmental makerspace further connect learning with the natural world.
In 2016, the BC Ministry of Education designated Choice as a Special Education School for the Gifted—the only school in British Columbia to hold this designation.
Most importantly, Choice is a caring and connected community. Students build strong relationships with teachers and peers who share their excitement for learning. They are encouraged to develop confidence, independence, high personal standards, and a lasting sense of possibility.
We welcome your interest and invite you to discover how Choice School may nurture the potential of your gifted child.
With warm regards,
