They are very hands on. All issues identified are brought to the parents attention for a collaborative response. We were pleased to learn that they do not permit bullying, foul, abusive language from the students, promote actively respect for authorities and working within the world we live. At times this has meant expulsion of students who would not follow these rules. Their active management meant that the environment remained supportive and was not derailed by those who had behavior issues. A consistent and uniform enforcement and treatment of these types of issues, promoted a community environment within the school. I had the opportunity to attend on a school trip over a weekend a couple of years ago. I was very impressed with all the children, who over many different years, stuck up for each other, and helped each other. Though they were in different classes there was a real sense of community within the school and it glowed.
School admin are very responsive. They provide excellent up to date information of school activities and events by email. I also use their app. They really seem to understand that each child is unique, with unique needs. They are caring and fair. If I can compare it to a boutique hotel- smaller and definitely more able to give the personalized attention each child's needs. They are respectful to the students' needs. They treat students like the young adults they are on their way of becoming..
The school's administration has responded to problems and disciplinary issues appropriately and with compassion and empathy. Communication is frequently good, but at times, has been spotty. This is partly because they are placing more emphasis on making older students accountable for their own school work. This is appropriate. However, for students with difficulties organizing their work, meeting deadlines, etc., it is important to continue to communicate with the parents so that they can support their students at home (and to trust the parents that they won't take over). It's nice to be able to contact the teachers directly. Schools in the public system don't tend to want to provide email addresses, which can make it difficult to contact teachers. Heritage provides email addresses of each teacher to facilitate easy communication. From an administrative perspective, the school appears to be well run, but some elements (e.g. financial management) can, at times, seem a bit disorganized.
The whole experience was positive. When there were behavioural issues with students they were dealt with swiftly and appropriately. That said this was seldom an issue. I am writing this years after leaving the school so my memories are not 100% clear. Communications were very responsive though I did experience some problems with billing and calculations which were not communicated clearly by the administrative assistant and took some time to resolve but that was the only negative experience in all the years at the school.
