Island Pacific School ADMISSIONS
Private schools in Canada have admissions policies, and they require application materials. These may include letters of application, application fees, essays, and tests (such as the SSAT). Many schools also require interviews with prospective students. Schools also use different criteria for evaluating student applications, have different acceptance rates, and target different kinds of students. To improve your child’s chances of acceptance, find out everything you can about a school’s admissions policies and how they assess applicants.

Science Fair & Open House
Student Science Fair & Open House ~ Everyone is welcome!
Have you ever wondered if plants grow upward even if they are planted upside down? Or if your eye colour, age or gender will affect your ability to see colour? These are some of the questions the Grade 7 and 8 students are asking and hoping to find answers for their science fair projects. This is a busy time of year, but the enthusiasm is infectious and the learning is genuine for the students and their teacher.
Date: Wednesday, February 23, 2022
Where: Island Pacific School
Time: 6:15 – 7:15
Science Fair has become a favourite project for many middle school students as it gives them a chance to learn about things that they are curious about and interested in. By conducting experiments, they learn that they can find the answers to their own questions and it sparks a sense of wonder and curiosity that transfers to other aspects of their lives. Every year we see the students become excited about their topic.
Science Fair is a challenging project that requires students to complete many steps over a long period of time. It may also be complicated and require some higher level critical thinking and problem solving, but, no matter the level of difficulty or complexity, students learn about the scientific method and gain an appreciation for the role science plays in advancing our understanding of the world around us.
While the grade 7 and 8’s are busy conducting their experiments, the grade 6 class is learning about Newton’s Laws of Motion and will be exploring these concepts by creating dynamic Rube Goldberg machines.
Parents are welcome to join us to see the grade 6’s Rube Goldberg machines and the 7 and 8’s science projects at the school between 6:15 and 7:15.
Free Bus shuttle from Snug Cove at 6 pm and return shuttle at 7:15 pm
