May 14, 2014: This week, our Upper School Band students have been competing in the 42nd Annual MusicFest Canada competition in Richmond, BC, with amazing results! The Havergal College Grade 7 Concert Band won the gold medal, with a special honour award going to Denise Lee on the flute, and the Havergal College Symphonic Concert Band won the silver medal, with a special honour award going to Sara Lakhani on the alto saxophone.
Congratulations to all members of the bands on these great results! MusicFest is a national music competition with the goal of celebrating excellence in musical performances and inspiring thousands of young musicians across the country. Founded by the Canadian Stage Band Festival (CSBF), the festival was a major force in the development of the stage band (an institutionally-based jazz ‘big band’) in Canadian high schools and universities. Havergal is proud to have been a part of this year’s competition!
