Shrek the Musical Wows Audiences

For the first time, Shrek the Musical was presented in Western Canada and what a show it was! Audiences were wowed at all five performances by the talent of the students, the beautiful sets, and the amazing music. The months of dedication to rehearsals and the talent and commitment of our students shone through in a remarkable and memorable production.

Since 1982 when STS presented the musical “Annie Get Your Gun” on the stage at Lord Beaverbrook High School, major musical productions have become a tradition involving many hundreds of students, staff and parents at STS.  A wide variety of musicals have been produced over the years.  Other productions during the 1980s included “My Fair Lady”, also presented at Lord Beaverbrook as well as “Anything Goes” which was presented at Central Memorial High School.  During the 1990s the University of Calgary stage was the scene of the STS presentation of “Anne of Green Gables”. Other productions during that same decade included “Little Mary Sunshine” in 1993. The first musical presented in the new C.A. Smith Arts Centre was that of “The Wizard of Oz” in 1996, soon to be followed by “The Music Man” in 1997.  For its millennial production STS presented “The King and I” in 2000.

This year's production combined the unique and varied talents of more than 100 students, staff, teachers, parents and community members
