ST. GEORGE’S SCHOOL ACCEPTED INTO CSSHL

VANCOUVER February 16, 2017

The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) announced today that the Board of Directors has voted in favour of accepting St. George’s School of Vancouver, B.C. into the CSSHL.

“The CSSHL is very pleased and excited to have St. George’s join our league,” said CSSHL chairperson Andy Oakes. “The quality of their education system and longevity of the school makes them an ideal partner for the league. As we strive to be the national leaders in education-based hockey, St. George’s will compliment that greatly.”

St. George’s School will begin play in the CSSHL for the 2017-18 season and plans to offer two teams for students born in 2003 and 2004.

The CSSHL organizes 18 schools from across Canada and supports the ability to offer a comprehensive hockey program within the school structure. At St. George's School, more than 15% of our students play hockey and increasingly are challenged to balance the demands of community hockey with the involvement of being a student at St. George's School. By joining the CSSHL, students at St. George's have the opportunity to participate in a hockey program similar to our existing Rugby, Rowing and Basketball; programs that are demanding and of high quality but also are balanced with the demands of being a student at St. George's.

St. George’s School is a world-class university preparatory boys’ school offering a Day Program from Grades 1 to 12, and a Boarding Program from Grades 8 to 12. With 1150 students, of whom 110 are boarders from various parts of BC and Canada and close to 20 countries worldwide, St. George’s is committed to becoming a world leader in the education of boys. Our Mission of “Building Fine Young Men. One Boy at a Time.” highlights our overriding goal of helping every boy become the very best human being he is capable of becoming—a young man of character who will be able and willing to help make the world a better place. Character education is integral to everything that we do, with particular emphasis on our Core Values: empathy, humility, integrity, resilience, respect, and responsibility.

Students at St. George’s benefit from a rich, engaging, learning environment characterized by many innovative programs and instructional processes designed to meet the learning needs of boys and young men. In addition to a full slate of Advanced Placement Courses, the Fine and Performing Arts are well represented through award-winning musical ensembles, theatre productions, and vibrant Visual Arts Programs. Students have access to more than 45 clubs, diverse Outdoor Education, Service, and Leadership Programs, and more than 50 different athletic options, with our athletes competing at the highest levels provincially and nationally.

Supported by a dedicated team of university counsellors, our graduating class of just over 160 receives over 700 offers from more than 130 universities worldwide, including Canada, the UK, and the United States.
