UCC's Model UN takes trophy at McGill for fifth-year running

UCC’s Model United Nations (MUN) team is at it again. They took the Best Large Delegation trophy (by one point, whew!) and many individual awards at the McGill MUN conference in Montreal in November. More than 1,500 students from schools across Canada, the U.S. and the Caribbean participated.

This victory represents the fifth time in a row UCC has taken the Best Delegation title at McGill, an unprecedented achievement.

This was an extremely challenging year, with American rival Mira Costa High School from Manhattan Beach, California (ranked as one of the best MUN schools in the U.S.) coming for us. Our team also brought more than a few rookies.

Still, the UCC MUN boys prevailed. Team captains were David Niddam-Dent and Adam Rothman. Thank you also to Joanne Hogan for giving up her weekend (and more) to help team adviser Matt Griem supervise.

About Model UN

Model United Nations is an educational simulation and/or academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches participants researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. It is meant to engage students and allow them to delve deeper into current world issues.
